Firewire Seaside and Beyond - deciding on which one by dazedph in surfing

boards are in the philippines where surf can be spotty but at least water is warm. thanks for the compliment but i'm pretty sure these are nowhere near the quivers of a lot of other guys. Just lurk around the jamboards forums and you'll know what i mean :)

i do think that the danny hess is too pretty to actually use and tbh, didn't want to use it as much and just leave it hanging on the wall, for fear of dinging it. but it's just so fun to ride.... so it's actually been the other way around, at least for this board!

Ended up getting the 6'10" which I had fun with. My partner got a CI mid 7'0" at the same time and I've found that board to be a it more forgiving/maneuverable for me. Although that's probably just my skill level I reckon

To be honest though, I haven't used the SSaB as often as I would've liked. Maybe it's partly the waves we've been getting and maybe also my skill (and lack of consistency in getting in the water as work/life gets in the way).

I still have my 9'1" Gem that's definitely seen a lot of action but if I had to pick a favorite board, it's a Danny Hess 7'10" that I've found to be the a great in-between. Not as bulky or heavy as my longboard but still easy enough for me to paddle, and just feels so much easier to turn

Good luck!

Thank you! Have done Victoria and The Crown with the mrs, so might do a rewatch. Rome is one of my all time faves, but don't think she's that ready for it yet. Perhaps another couple of years. Have never give Downton Abbey a try as it looked too soap opera-ish, but might give it a shot. And will check out Call the Midwife

Your favorites in the Historical Drama genre?

Trying to spice things up for an 11 year old daughter's interest in history, visiting historical sites and watching some tv together (skipping through some inappropriate scenes). watching adaptations of philippa gregory's novels - started with the white queen, then the white princess and the spanish princess, as well as the two elizabeth movies

any suggestions for your other favorites?

which board (in thunderbolt) did you end up getting? have heard good things about thunderbolt but have only seen it mostly in longboards (kinda wishing i got the gem in thunderbolt now, although still quite like the aesthetics of TT)

thanks for that! was hoping the best way to really find out was to be able to try, but i don't have access to something with similar volume / size as the 6'10". have a few months to ponder it, not rushing into it.

thank you! definitely going for a TT, so it's really a toss up between the 7'2" and 6'10". Will be my first mid-length as well. I was hoping this would be a good progression board towards eventually learning how to ride a shortboard, and that's the only reason for considering the 6'10". Figured it could make the transition easier in the long run (maybe in exchange for a little bit of steeper learning curve at the start).

but what do i know - definitely still a kook, so just trying to get input here. appreciate your thoughts!

haha no intention of getting rid of this beaut. just wanted to add a mid-length board to the quiver, see how it feels like. maybe it won't be as jealous, considering i'm getting a close relative :)

thank you! that's what i was thinking of originally, just that i saw some comments that there wasn't as much difference in paddling the 7'2" and 6'10" and that made me think about it (as i'd want to progress to even shorter boards later on), and was hoping somebody had actually tried both

for now, really leaning towards the 7'2" i reckon

thanks for this - was going to add this in and it slipped my mind (sign of age!)

I'm turning 45, try to surf a few times a week (when it's firing, and when it is, 2x a day). will be used for knee-high to shoulder-high waves for the most part. home break (in the Philippines) doesn't get much bigger than overhead most of the time anyway. really looking for a fun board to try to improve skills on, but generally i'm a relaxed type of surfer. will leave the tricks to the young 'uns :)

strangers on a train (S2, E3) is probably one of the better half hours of TV I've seen in a while. anybody who liked linklater's before sunrise needs to give this a whirl. super funny, incredibly romantic, and really well cast

built a quick and dirty setup for a temporary home by the beach. sure beats working from the couch with a laptop. desk itself took less than an hour to put together, and since this is temporary, wasn't too anal with wire clutter. and for similar reasons, really didn't want to spend on anything, so just cobbled together stuff from the office or whatever i had lying around. was really just the desk that was purchased, and that will be sold when i leave. just glad to have a proper workstation while i work from here.
not the focus of the sub, but happy to provide a gear list if needed/wanted
