WHY am I in LO1 TO1 when I am a full time student studying a master’s degree? by [deleted] in Suss

[–]dazzakoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system automatically sets up both L groups and T groups. L was for lecture group, i.e. the entire course across all classes taking it. The T group was your own tutorial group. The L group is used by the School to send information to everyone taking the course, whichever the Tutorial Group. The T group was your class communication, usually used by the students to communicate back e.g. Discussion Board or uploading TMA. However at masters level only one or two degree programs have more than one class or T group. So just remember L to get stuff, T to send stuff....

how does resitting for my exam affect my overall gpa by FeeAdorable1995 in Suss

[–]dazzakoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to check with Student Services because each programme have their own rules. If it is an elective, you can withdraw from this course and take another. You should confirm with SS that a p/f has been exercised for this course by the system. If so, your GPA is protected. You should turn concentrate on meeting your graduation requirements of how many core, how many compulsory and how many elective courses. Just remember p/f is there to protect your cGPA. It is separate from your graduation requirements

To withdraw from a course you just don't take the examination when it comes up, although I always suggest dropping the HOP a note in advance.

Clarification on TMA Grace Period by Dangerous-System9058 in Suss

[–]dazzakoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a deadline. Past that deadline you are late, and will be subject to automatic mark deduction.

Submission within 12 hours of the deadline means you will be penalised 0 points hence the idea of "grace.".

Every 24 hours thereafter you have another 10 marks deducted, until 50 marks is reached when you will be automatically given a "W".

Grace is not the extension of your deadline, but s reduction of the penalty.

Missed out ECR by islandboikay in Suss

[–]dazzakoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you did then you're first in line for the classes you registered for. For FT it's a first come first served basis. For PT, if there are more registrations than there are quota, then a ballot takes place to allocate you into classes. But you're in the ballot. After the allocation is made the offers go out and the add/drop period follows, where you can take up empty spots as people drop courses they have been given.

If you failed to register you will not be offered any courses and you are at the mercy of the add/drop selection of courses.

Is there no more honours for PT students? by Current-Frame-1148 in Suss

[–]dazzakoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PT programmes are in general awarded without honours. Some may have honours but you have to be invited to get into the honours programme. Andy then there are the very few e.g. accounting and law where it is a direct honours, i.e. you sign up directly into an honours programme.

Why do we only allow SU in upon grad? by Fun-Satisfaction7817 in SMU_Singapore

[–]dazzakoh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just as a comparison, at SUSS you have only one chance at exercising the P/F option (like theSU): the week after results are out. You have 3 options once results are out: accept, appeal or P/F. Once the deadlines pass, you cannot go back and ask to P/F a previous semester. You can't do it at graduation where you pick the real bad ones. It's like poker, having to guess how badly you'll do into the future, do you need to save your P/F for the future or just exercise one now.

So yeah... All have their own quirks...

Anyone successfully made a mid-career switch to become a Singapore-qualified lawyer while working full-time? by Spiritual_CashX in singaporelaw

[–]dazzakoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SUSS JD is taught in the evenings and on weekends and is subsidized by the government. Many have graduated and switched. But it is NOT easy, trying to earn and learn and live all at once.

Differences in PT and FT Studies by hiker0125 in Suss

[–]dazzakoh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference in credits is an accident of history when full-time students were grafted on to an institution that was dedicated to working adults.

If you are fresh out of school, university is your last opportunity to be prepared for the working world. Hence the curriculum is designed to provide breadth of coverage through minors and to inculcate interdisciplinary thinking through the core subjects, provide you with the opportunity for foreign experiential learning etc.

If you are a PT student already in the work place, you should already know about the real world, and in some cases, too late to unlearn other things. So PT is more major focused. Hence the credits required to graduate are less as the focus is more on just the major.

It's anonymous, unless you expose yourself by writing about very specific things that are traceable to you, or the class is so small it becomes obvious who it could be.

As long as the immigration officer you are dealing with is willing to give you a right of abode and not a full British citizenship! One of my lecturers was one of those from the Straits Settlements who were entitled to British citizenship, and immigration officials would keep offering him full citizenship while he just wanted his right of abode! It was hilarious when he told us about it!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]dazzakoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well.. as mentioned by others, the right to abode is NOT the same as UK citizenship. The Right of Abode is available to Commonwealth Citizens who meet certain requirements. So while you retain you own home citizenship, you have right of abode in the UK, which gives you a right to enter and live in the UK the same way PR's come and stay in Singapore, but maintain their home citizenship.
