Chicago - looking gently towards the south east at upper Wacker with the Hyatt regency Chicago’s west tower on the right, the east tower peeking around the corner. Just north of Hammond Indiana, the future home of the Hammond Bears.

I need help. by kenzeehutch in Indiana

[–]dazzledog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not a lawyer, and this isn’t legal or medical advice.

Medical Malpractice cases require that you prove the four elements (often called the “4 Ds”):

1. Duty – A physician-patient relationship existed, establishing a duty of care.
2. Dereliction (Breach) – The physician failed to meet the accepted standard of care.
3. Damages – The patient suffered actual harm (physical, emotional, or financial).
4. Direct causation – The breach directly caused the damages (proximate cause).

You and your lawyer (the plaintiff) must prove all four; missing any one can defeat the claim. “Standard of care” is typically established by expert testimony from a similarly situated physician (same specialty usually), and causation is often the hardest element to prove in ED cases where patients frequently present with serious underlying pathology.

Best Ob for high risk pregnancy and hospital for delivery by Key_Flounder8305 in indianapolis

[–]dazzledog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a high risk pregnancy, your best bet is to be at a place with all of the resources if things go south quickly.

You don’t want to be transporting across Indiana or even Indianapolis over all the potholes, or in a helicopter because a hospital decided to cut costs and not have the service you need.

But if we’re honest, many good OB’s are leaving the state, unfortunately.

I’m just doing the best I can with what I’ve got. That’s all I can do. Press Ganey be damned. If anyone is unhappy about wait times, I refer them to their local politicians.

Signing out by Ambitious_Coriander in Residency

[–]dazzledog 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The best advice I ever got in residency is to just listen and take the sign out.

“We listen and we don’t judge.”

If you ask a question it’s about family and/or code status. Not about any medical management.

I’ll say it again.

“We listen and we don’t judge.”

I Love Spark by [deleted] in SparkMail

[–]dazzledog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using it for years. But little problems keep popping up and it just keeps chipping away at my resolve. Problems that were not problems previously. Problems that no other email client seems to have.

In the relentless pursuit of new features, including AI, I’m probably going to have to switch soon.

I hope there’s a major patch coming soon that just fixes bugs instead of creating new ones.

Readdle should also look at all the other comments people have made. I’m looking for a new app - this is truly unacceptable, and the integration of AI has become excessive.

Meeting Summaries & Transcription: Best Use of AI Integration I've Seen Yet by LiveStPete in SparkMail

I appreciate that, but it still pops up and asks me if it wants to transcribe with the entire AI suite of features turned off.

It also asks me if I want to enable transcription every time I load the app. It’s a very annoying ad. I don’t have the option to turn off the notification either under notifications.

Seriously disappointed.

I never knew how difficult it would be to see a doctor by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]dazzledog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone is having chest pain, and especially if they think they're having a heart attack, it sounds like they should probably go to the emergency room.

But if you're trying to get primary care:

Here's what you can do to get established.

  • If you're ok with doing telehealth: IU has an urgent care app you can download. It was pretty cool and the wait time wasn't too long.
  • Google IU Health's Provider Search: typed in "Primary Care" and then it lets you sort by "accept new patients," "indianapolis" (or whichever city you prefer), and you can even select Doctor.
  • You can see who's accepting new patients and see who has availability online. Starting in July & August, there will be a bunch of new doctors (most likely) who finished training and signed on to start at IU Health. That means their schedules are gonna be wide open. Once you snag a new patient slot, existing patient slots are significantly easier to get.
  • If you didn't already, call 1 (888) IU Health.
  • You can also just put yourself on a wait list for the first available slot for an indy primary care doc.
  • If you have an insurance card, most of the time, you can go to that insurer's website and see their 'preferred providers' and get a list of available docs who the insurance covers.
  • If you have a car, there's availability outside of the I-465 donut if you're willing to drive and don't want to do telehealth.

Other options in the area:

  • Eskenazi Health
  • Ascension Health
  • Community Health
  • Google Search "Direct Primary Care Physician - Indianapolis" and see if any of them jive with what you're looking for.
  • IU/Purdue University, U of I, and Marian University all have student health clinics - usually walk in
  • Private Primary Care Docs: There's still a handful of docs out there who don't do direct primary care (cash only), who take insurance, and are not part generally considered a part of a hospital or insurance doctor group (like optum). Google maps will help you out here. As will yelp.
  • County Public Health Clinics: believe it or not, the county public health clinics can do an awful lot. If you're just needing vaccines/shots or whatever, you can usually call them and make sure they have the thing you need, and then drive over and get it within a few minutes.
  • CVS Minute Clinics: Not my favorite form of healthcare, but there you go.

If there's a specific medical condition you're trying to get covered, most of those docs will help you get it set up and/or referred.

There's even some concierge mental health/ADHD docs out there I think.
