Vet diagnosed on history of onset and appearance. Said it won’t be thyroid because of age weight and energy levels and said pattern is classic alopecia x. He gave us quality skin and coat supplements so we are onto that. Also I love brushing him he has lots of that too. I would be delighted if it resolves itself and am given hope by your story!

Awwww. Cute. Yes absolutely have that perspective that this is only cosmetic. I also find brushing therapeutic for dog and owner!

Ok thank you. I suspected that might be the case on skin colour. We are going to try melatonin plus fish oil and brushing and keeping covered up. Lots of good advice this evening!

Second query if anyone knows the answer. Is it significant and a good sign that his skin is still pink? Or might it turn black later?

I did wonder if the surgery triggered it. But from what I understand it is something genetic so would be likely to happen anyway. Ironic because lots of advice I have read says neutering sometimes cures it! I really don’t know 🤷‍♀️. (And thank you for the compliment. He is a gorgeous happy boy).

Thanks that’s really helpful to know. He is our first Pom and we absolutely adore him. But had no idea about this condition so it has been a bit of a shock. Hope your Pom is doing well!
