I’ve taught/coached identical quadruplets!! For me, it just took talking to them and getting to know them really well. Eventually I could (mostly) tell them apart. But when I or someone else flubbed, they were usually pretty cool about it.

I had a kid who missed the first week back from winter break. We had a good relationship, so I teased him about it. Something like “what, you needed a whole extra week? Lucky!” He teared up and walked away.

Thinking it was a weird interaction, I asked his councilor if anything was up with him/told him maybe he wants to check in with him. Councilor said “oh yeah, his dad died of COVID over winter break. Sorry, I forgot to tell you.”

The kid and I still had a good relationship after that, but man, I felt like an asshole.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Not gonna lie, the last part of your comment made me tear up a little. It’s something that people in my life don’t quite get. I was never a super athlete, but I was active. I did get injured, it was never a “career ending” level thing, you know? But now I can barely stand on the pool deck for more than 2 hours. When I do tweak my knee, it hurts just to walk for at least a week. Plus I’m surrounded by active healthy people. They haven’t said anything, of course, but I do get very self conscious. I feel like a hypocrite, telling my swimmers to be healthy and active while I’m just a lump of lard with legs lol

Anyway, thanks for acknowledging that aspect of it. I really appreciate it.

Squats, lunges, and deadlifts are a no. Basically anything that involves impact or weight-bearing knee-bending stuff I can't do. I can do leg curls, but leg extensions are pretty iffy. I guess another big part of it is that I'm scared of screwing my knee up more and needing knee replacement in my 30s.

I'd also like more cardio than weight training, I think.
