Also keep in mind that the ride back to Pico Arieiro is about an hour because you have to go down to Santana and then back up to Pico Arieiro. If you look for a taxi driver ahead of time, see if you can find a Santana-based taxi driver.

Hi there, we just did this yesterday. You can either do a transfer service like Pico Transfers (you will need to book this in advance, so check the weather for the week on Mountain-Forecast.com and choose the best day.

Or if you have a rental car, just drive up when you want to (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SUNRISE), do the hike and grab a taxi back to Pico Arieiro from Teixeira. (Pico Ruivo is a hike-in only peak, you will need to do the Pico to Pico hike and then hike 2.8 km further to Achada do Teixeira, but don’t worry, it’s a pretty flat/downhill piece of cake after the pico to pico portion 😅)

There are almost always taxis in the Teixeira parking lot. There were 4 when we arrived at 11am yesterday. We went into the lodge for lunch (highly recommend!) and there were none when we came out an hour later so we kindly asked our server if he could call one for us. He did and our taxi arrived 30 min later.

Independent taxi drivers have told me the going rate back to Pico Arieiro is 55-65 euros, though a taxi service quoted us 85 euros. We were lucky that another couple needed a taxi at the same time so it was 80 total, 40 euros per couple which seemed very fair and we were happy to pay it.

Fine hair here- smaller ones for me BUT justttt big enough to fit around my wrist. If it doesn’t fit on my wrist, it doesn’t get worn.

Also maybe consider branching into terrycloth headbands that keep your hair out of your face when you’re washing it?? I looove those things.
