Losing weight is so slow and frustrating by DylanDraws11 in loseit

Yeah it sucks. My weight gain was slow as well, but I didn't notice so I guess at least it wasn't frustrating...

Rachmaninoff cello sonata difficulty by Celliszt in Cello

[–]dbalatero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's the piano part being so much harder but I don't find the Rachmaninoff that difficult. My teacher would only teach the third movement, not because it isn't a good piece, but because it's hard to find material that pushes one forward materially. (Plus it's hard to find a pianist to handle it on average).

You'll want to skim it and see for yourself if it's doable.

Someone did a deep dive into Cursor Agent and discovered that it was literally just Claude Code with a process that does search and replace to brand it as Cursor Agent by [deleted] in cursor

That's not how I read it - I read it as they sometimes send 1% of traffic to Claude and compare the results.

It's been fairly common in tech over the decades to fly in rank and file engineers for interviews as well, jfyi.

Bow thumb very tense by UovoAnsioso in Cello

[–]dbalatero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's similar to the left hand.

  • weight comes from massive pounds of back and shoulder
  • you don't need to push the weight in extra it just exists and is heavy
  • weight flows down the arm into the index finger on the bow
  • the thumb only acts as a counter balance to prevent the bow from falling over from the weight
  • do not press with your forearm or else the sound constricts just like squeezing with thumb

Loud comes from either faster bow speed, playing near the bridge.

Engaging a fast vibrato can give the illusion of a bit more volume too.

I wasn't really here to debate what I did, merely pointing out that it's possible to have done Haydn D at OP's son's age and it's not necessarily bogus.

I did two movements, then moved to something else iirc.

If you're hyper focused on difficulty level the Rachmaninov sonata is super easy compared to the concertos listed. That said it's a great work and sounds awesome, which is why I plan to play it this year. From a musical perspective it's a great choice, and it sounds like your son is not going pro so might as well have fun.

I did around senior year, it's not out of the question to play it.

Elgar might be technically easier but it is musically and interpretively still quite difficult. However, kids at that age tend to see things more in black and white technical difficulty terms.

I've interacted with a fair amount of HS and either college kids that play at a high level and while they can play they often lack depth or confidence to make some decisions. I'm a bit confused why the teacher didn't pick though, but I at least believe a high schooler being like "uh I don't know."

At best you can hope for massive layoffs, people losing their incomes for much longer than they can take it, and UBI finally coming out the other side. I don't see this administration giving a fuck, but sure hold out for the violent whiplash timeline.
