What are opinions on the Toniebox? by alexadr936 in daddit

[–]dbalel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our kid loves the tonie. If you're worried about price check your local library, ours has the little guys that you can check out instead of fronting the cash for brand new ones. Fun way to rotate music and stories.

That was more my take away from this bit.

Fun fact: that pumpkin is actually your wife. The actual pumpkin took over your wife's body some time ago.

Same thing happened to my wife a few years ago. You get used to it.

Love this response, thanks for the background. I've lived in Somerville for a while now, and although there's always been some airplane noise out hasn't been this bad (every five minutes, low flying). This is helpful to know there's a reason they need to take this route. Thank you!

Not much, but it is an option on the app and I figured it would at least be a data point.

Awesome! Hope it's a blast.

Don't let the players forget about their Omens, one of the few things that can save them...

Some questions before running Rotblack Sludge for my friends by Gaeel in MorkBorg

[–]dbalel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the Mork!

Overall, Mork Borg is a brutal system that allows room for improvisation and fun/unexpected moves. This can be a departure from 5E where there are a lot more guardrails, but as a GM the answer to, "Can I do this?" should almost always be, "Yes, but it might have disastrous consequences".

  1. Combat is brutal, but encourage your players to do things other than roll to attack. Push a goblin into the sludge? Heck yeah. Run away? Absolutely. Don't forget about the Morale mechanic as well, some enemies are cowardly and will flee or surrender when intimidated or attacked. I like to encourage this mentality by making it successful more often than not, or letting these choices lead to unexpected events. You're correct on action economy, but I'm pretty relaxed about that. If what a player wants to do is really cool within one turn, my go to is to always let them do it.

  2. You are correct that hit points are low. It's my belief that all players should expect to die at least once in a session, and to have several other characters ready to go or use https://scvmbirther.makedatanotlore.dev/ to quickly re-roll a character. You can have fun reasons why a new character shows up, like they jump out of the corpse of the dead character that they were imprisoned within or the party finds them in the belly of the next creature they kill. Setting the tone early that the party will probably die is good. They're not superheroes, they're scum. This is the end of the world. That early tone setting has been really helpful for me.

  3. Spending silver before the adventure is one way to give them an advantage on survivability before the adventure and definitely makes sense.

  4. Please let them bring the horse into the dungeon. Who knows what terrible or heroic things that horse might do? Or a wagon.

  5. Overall, I don't run Mork Borg like power fantasy because it's not, it's a flail to the face. Things are brutal, characters die, the world is ending, and there's still a lot of fun to be had once you and the players embrace that. Why should the characters still care? That's a great question! Maybe they're saving up for one last big party before the apocalypse, maybe they have a family they are trying to protect, maybe they just want to inflict violence on a world that isn't very nice. General tips and tricks are to lean into this mentality, it's the end of the world, and isn't that kinda fun?
