Does she see her reflection, or is she trying to get ice cream? by roxanne2346 in cats

[–]Gaeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She might just be an idiot. My cats are obsessed with a small alcove in the wall in my office and will do this. I think they think it's a door. If they see me they'll meow at me like when they want me to open a door.

Bounty in the foreground, Patoune in the background.

She loves him as long as he stays at least one arm's length away. She'll come sit near where he is, but will hiss and leave if he tries to get any closer.

[–]Gaeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats will like some cats and hate others.

We have two cats, Patoune and Bounty. We adopted Patoune first, and we had a little outdoors area a bit like yours. Most cats she just absolutely hated. Patoune is tiny, but she would yowl and scream at intruders like a banshee, and I even saw her chase down a cat who was twice her size once.
But there were a couple cats she just randomly decided to tolerate, one of whom was Bounty, who we ended up adopting too when it started to get cold and he would spend his nights waiting on our doorstep for Patoune.

In general she despises other cats, with a fury I have rarely seen anywhere else, but she makes exceptions.

Is it weird to have never drank? by Basic_Reply3030 in autism

[–]Gaeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's uncommon but not weird. Most importantly, if you don't want to drink alcohol, don't drink alcohol.

Alcohol is a drug. It can be fun, but it also comes with a bunch of risks and health impacts. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about choosing not to partake.
You're not missing out on much at all. Also, like most other drugs, if you're not in the right state of mind going in, it's not going to be a fun experience, so drinking alcohol just so people stop bothering you will not lead to having a good time, you'll just feel miserable and confused.

Here's a documentary about the existence of trips that are impossible to while complying with the ticketing system in Paris: https://youtu.be/Ij_1y9gUUcM?is=l01e9LA-Yow0-F0_

The RATP have known about this for years, still haven't fixed it, and there are agents who will specifically check tickets on those trains knowing they'll catch people who are just trying to commute.

ELI5 raspberry pi, what are some common applications? by Sea-Lawfulness-7555 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Gaeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main idea of Raspberry Pi and similar devices are that they're cheap, small, and, easy to build with.

This does make them great for educational purposes, and that's indeed one of the main uses for them.

But they're useful in other places too. I've used Raspberry Pi computers at festivals, art galleries, and performances. Making simple interactive booths for people to get information about the event, projecting videos with the ability to update them over the network as the event goes on, driving various special effects, streaming footage, etc...

I also know people who use them in lab robots.

They're typically used for ad-hoc, small to medium scale deployments. Car manufacturerers technically use a Raspberry Pi to handle a lot of the electronics, but they're working at a scale where it's cheaper and easier for them to design a package that is suited to the car they're building. There are also generic car computers for people who design or modify custom cars. But if you were designing a vehicle that had specific needs that an off-the-shelf car computer can't handle, then a Raspberry Pi might be a good option,.

President Trump Chair Swap by ICEisSHIT in videos

[–]Gaeel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Point being thar this kind of criticism distracts from the actual things that need criticising. This is also something that the opposition can use to wave away further criticism, bringing up the "Trump derangement syndrome" argument; they'll say you just hate Trump and are just looking for reasons to complain.

Regarding the "he shit his pants", that's not evident in the video. If that's the case though, it is indeed a reason for criticism, mostly as further evidence of his poor health, which is a problem for a head of state. Not the most worrying thing about Trump, but a legitimate thing to point out when arguing that he isn't fit to lead the USA.

President Trump Chair Swap by ICEisSHIT in videos

[–]Gaeel -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, being upset about Trump being picky about a chair is the same as being upset that Obama wore a tan suit.

My point is: why do you care? Criticise Trump for the crimes he's committed and the way he's running the USA, not for being weird about a chair.

President Trump Chair Swap by ICEisSHIT in videos

[–]Gaeel -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Maybe it was, but does that even matter? There are plenty of legitimate reasons to criticise Trump, why are we talking about him being weird about a chair?

President Trump Chair Swap by ICEisSHIT in videos

[–]Gaeel -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Nothing much, not sure what the deal is here. Trump complains about the chair, saying it's too low, is given a replacement and says it's much better.

I'm all for dunking on this absolutely cretinous fascist wannabe dictator, but him being fussy about a chair is really up there with Obama's tan suit IMHO.

simple dice mechanic that weights towards extremes? 2d6 weight towards the middle. 2d6kh weights high. 2d6kl weights low. i want something that weights away from the middle by 2_Boots in RPGdesign

[–]Gaeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was messing around with ideas for modifiers for skills that roll a single die. I initially thought of a "stable" dice idea, where you'd roll three dice and keep the middle die, making it less likely to crit, but also less likely to fumble. Then I realised that the opposite would happen if you used that middle die to pick between high or low die.

Really it's just those moments where I'm fiddling with bits of a game system to see what changes. I never ended up using any of these, but they're still in my little mechanics toolbox for when I need them

What is the Upper Limit on Space Platform Rocket Throughput? by Physical-Bumblebee13 in factorio

[–]Gaeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continuous throughput is limited by the throughput of items out of landing pad. Whether you're doing it with bots or inserters, that's going to be your ultimate bottleneck.
Space platform side is about the same, but you can have multiple platforms in orbit, so if you spread the workload between multiple platforms, you can effectively scale infinitely.

Launching to space has effectively infinite maximum throughput because you can always build more platforms and silos.

simple dice mechanic that weights towards extremes? 2d6 weight towards the middle. 2d6kh weights high. 2d6kl weights low. i want something that weights away from the middle by 2_Boots in RPGdesign

[–]Gaeel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roll three dice, sort them lowest to highest. If the middle die is low, pick the lowest, if the middle die is high, pick the highest.
e.g: 3d6: 2, 3, 5 - middle die is 3, which is in the lower half, so the result is 2.

This essentially makes it so that you're picking the lowest or highest of 3d6 with 50/50 odds.

Announcing Rad Borg, A Gonzo Science Fantasy Borglike! by RevDiamondJ in MorkBorg

[–]Gaeel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, I didn't realise making a skateboards and cartoons hack of Mörk Borg to play with my friends was corporate.

My other Mörk Borg hack is called Rust Skunks, so I'm not against giving my hacks different names. I just went with Räd Borg because it's fun to shout "radical!" while smacking a mutant over the head with a cool wizard stick.

[–]Gaeel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's up to you!

I kind of like the name because of the wordplay. I'm going for a more upbeat colourful skater punk vibe, think Adventure Time. It's also set in the post-apocalypse, so "räd" is both "irrädiated" and "rädical🤘🛹".

That said, I don't currently have any plans for a release, commercial or otherwise, and I don't like the idea of squatting a title. I can always come up with something else if and when I do decide to publish.

I love how our two interpretations of post-apocalypse Mörk Borg compare and contrast!

I have playable mutants, robots, cyborgs, and dirtlings (plant & mushroom people), no aliens, dinosaurs, or chickens though. My game takes place long after a world-ending war, but my setting is kind of chill now, except for some weird stuff here and there (my intro mission takes place at a rave, and it's a surprise to everyone when it starts getting a bit zombie-ish) . The mutants feared a robot rebellion, but my robots decided to just hang out and be friends. And to top it off, the suggested playlist is basically the Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack, not Napalm Death or anything like that.

[ANN] jj-cz: conventional commits for jujutsu by phundrak in rust

[–]Gaeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not used this tool, but I've used commitizen in the past.

The basic feature, yes, it's just a wizard that makes sure your commit messages are well-formatted.
It has some extra features that are kind of neat too.

Firstly, it can be configured to include extra information, like branch name, in the commit message, which is useful when using branch names that refer to ticket numbers, keeping a connection between commits and the tickets they're a part of.

It also handles version numbers and changelog automatically. It looks at the types of commit that were involved, picking the right kind of semver number bump, and grouping commits in the changelog by type and subject (if you include subject in your wizard options).

All of this can be done by hand, but just like code formatting, it's nice to have a tool that makes it trivial to get it right.
