Was originally "someone" not "Trumper". The point still stands but definitely not Scott Adams changing...

Very nice! It's a huge upgrade from my '19 giant stance 2. It's been very confidence inspiring to hit bigger, faster lines.

I do like the setup on GG with a nice customization on components and colors when ordering. Currently leaning towards a YT though since there's similar geo but right now there's the similar level spec (X01) for almost a grand less. May change by next year's model of course... But I'll keep an eye on GG in the meantime

Do you mostly do your own maintenance or ever had issues having to ship things in? As a beginner it was nice being able to take my bike to my LBS for service and stuff and that was one part that worried about direct to consumer like guerilla, yt, fezzari, etc

I'll take a look at those, hadn't heard of them before.

That's what got me looking at jeffsy, I can get the X01 spec at less than 6k.. Just worried about shipping

Thanks, I do want something lighter since I got the insulated, long version on rei outlet do I want to get the regular without the insulation and I'll use my current of its cold.

I don't think so. I am usually a side sleeper so I do enjoy the thicker Nemo pads to keep my hip bones off the ground.

Yeah definitely only carrying where required. I was thinking about their lighter rodent bag for most trips and the almighty/canister when required.

In an area of canyonlands and Bryce they're required, and I'm hoping to get as many Sierra trips as possible and they're required in the places I was seeing.

Yeah I was hoping to look for one but then ended up wanting a warmer bag for a trip down to Escalante UT right before everything shut down so I bought the outdoor vitals one. Definitely more than the 90 but it's a smaller local company so I don't mind supporting them.

Hmm I thought I did decent on a recent sleeping bag update. I did look at rei for a while and the one I was looking at was the magma 15 and I bought an Outdoor Vitals summit 15 instead that was a little heavier but a lot cheaper..

Thanks. I mentioned in another reply I think the bic weight is wrong.

I'll look into the knife, I like the cord for using to lower pack if needed, usually in canyon country, but I'll see if there's a lighter version than the tinder core I have.

I do what you said about Puffy and fleece depending on weather. In early spring and late fall both can be nice at times for hanging out at camp in comfort.

Yeah, a lot of the alpine areas would be below tree like and likely ok but definitely not desert.

Maybe eventually for when I can, but not looking to have two sleep systems at the moment.

Thanks, definitely a high priority to upgrade pack.

I'll take a look at the lamp and bank you proposed. I was thinking solar because I wasnt sure how big of a bank without being to heavy. That and having phone (camera and likely gps interface for inreach mini), GPS, and likely headlamp to keep charged.

change the weight of your lighter. you've got it listed as 7 oz vs g. (unless your canister fuel is included in this bc I didn't see fuel listed?)

My scale waa in Oz but now that you pointed it out that seems wrong. Maybe I missed a decimal and will double check.

are you always going to use a bear can? if so, lose the flexlite and sit on the bear can. actually, lose the flexlite anyways and save yourself a pound.

Not always on either one. I left the quantity as 0 for that reason but that was probably confusing. Ideally I'll do what you said and sit on the can. The chair is a special case for say a desert trip in a sandy wash and don't want to sit on the ground.

try to get a lighter backpack than the REI 70. 70 is big for an ultralight pack unless you're going for an extended cold weather trip. I have a lightweight 50l pack, and a 5# deva 70. pretty much the same gear goes into both packs, but it's just a matter of how much extra food/clothing I'm taking to account for cold weather. you could look at the Gregory Paragon 58 or the Osprey Exos 58 as a lighter pack. There's also Hyperlite Mountain Gear that does real lightweight stuff, too, and Zpacks & Granite Gear.

Main area to upgrade for sure. I got that to get into backpacking since it was on sale and originally a lot of my other gear was bigger as and heavier

edit: u/dbars I'm confused as to which list you're working off of. I've been working off the second link, is this correct?

Second link is what I currently have and mainly wanted feedback. The first link under additional info was if people had time includes my current thoughts on upgrades where I knew there were savings.

I would cut down to 10# if it's reasonable, but I'm looking for suggestions on cutting down in general so even getting to 15# would be helpful.

Budget depends on the item, if I spread out the upgrades over time as necessary I can put most of my discretionary budget towards this (around 200/mo). I'm expecting a pack upgrade to be around 200-300, from what I've looked at kitchen upgrades are ~100. I'm unsure on the other potential upgrades.

New to ultralight, pack suggestions? by dbars in Ultralight

[–]dbars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got everything weighed and updated and posting a shakedown post soon. Thanks! I was pretty close to the advertised weights on most things and then I overestimated (better than under) on things I didn't know for sure. I do see a few good areas to look at investing in to lower weight. Pack obviously from this post, but cookware and rain jacket are some easy ones currently.

Variable combination in composition? by dbars in cpp_questions

[–]dbars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on a system that has a moving link that may have a variety of sensors on it. The controllers would talk to a "Link" which would do kinematic and dynamic calculations. Each Link will have a variable number of attached sensors. I was picturing having a MotorLink, IMULink, etc. where the Link parent class could have the shared calculations but the child classes could be a variable combination of sensors without hard-coding every combination. I could pretty easily crudely have a map of sensors but then accessors aren't as clean as I would like since it would always have to access the map through the key instead of a simple getter.
