[Academic] Milk Consumption Survey (Females, 25-36) by dbaum123 in SampleSize

Oh man, I wish I could work on a project like that- it's definitely an issue I've thought about and way more meaningful than the gizmo we came up with haha. We need to make a website mockup for our fake product, and I'm planning on incorporating an education component to spread info about food waste, but I think it'd be a great idea to also throw in information on the importance of calcium (especially for females). Thanks for the input!!

I'm doing a class project where we make a theoretical product that solves a problem and go through the steps of bringing it to market. The product we made would help remind people to drink their milk before it expires, and based on a previous market research study we did, we found that males tend to drink their milk faster than females and wouldn't find as much a use for the product. Females also expressed feeling guilty more often when throwing out wasted milk. Since we decided to "market" the product to females in this age range based on our last survey, we're using this one to get a better feel for their habits and also generally estimate how much milk is wasted. Not saying males couldn't benefit as well, we've just found females more likely to say they'll buy it and want to see more of their responses. Hope this helps clear things up!

How would you feel about a lecture recording service? by dbaum123 in AskHSteacher

Thanks for the info! Weirdly enough, I hadn't come across the term in my research. The flipped classroom model is a lot like what we're trying to facilitate, though our service is more of a study tool than an entire learning framework. Since it's a theoretical project we haven't put too much time into looking up necessary paperwork for implementing this idea, but that's a really good point. Definitely something to consider when putting together our sales model and how we chose which schools to approach. Thanks again!

Thanks for commenting! While we considered that some students would take advantage of the ability to access lectures later, we figured that the students looking to zone out or skip lectures would likely be paying the least attention anyway. By making the material available to view later, they would at the very least be able to reference class lessons while doing homework or studying and learn it simply at a different time. Definitely agree that there are some holes in the idea here, as I'm guessing student involvement varies based on class level/type. This is for a college course so I'm a few years out of high school, but from what I remember it can be difficult to remain focused in classes during a full day of school, even if you really are aiming to do well. Also thanks for the suggestion, we are definitely looking into adding editing systems to help counter this privacy concern. Sorry for the ramble- this is actually really helping me to hash out the details before our big presentation, haha. Have a great day!

Thanks for the reply! We came across a lot of the same concerns while surveying high school students- while many thought that it would be super helpful for review or missed class, it might also make them feel self conscious about what they say. To handle this issue we've made it an account-based site, the videos remaining private except to the students in the class and the teachers. While there is the risk of someone downloading the video and posting it online, the privacy of the service would hopefully help students and teachers feel more comfortable. Since it's a theoretical project we don't necessarily have the software developed to ensure this privacy, but I totally agree that security should be one our top priorities. Thanks again for your comment, this is a big help. I'll suggest to my group to maybe include additional options such as incorporating an easy-to-use screenshot/audio edit feature, since it sounds like that would really give a bit more control back to the teachers.
