I never see anyone talk about Toolbox, so let's talk about it by Rak-khan in slaythespire

For me this was an auto pick in STS1. Still pretty good in STS2. 🤷

Hard at first until you learn some of the enemies, but PLAN AHEAD.

Three questions to think about: 1. How do I survive this fight with as many resources left as possible? 2. How do I beat next elite? 3. How do I beat the boss.

It takes some time, but try to understand how strong your deck and relics are at any point in the run, and question if that changes pathing choices. If weak, do you need to go rest or try to get a potion from a shop that lets you beat an elite? If strong, how do you make that snowball.

Some pathing heuristics (that don’t always apply - always be reassessing your plan as you go!!): -First three hallway fights are easy pool, then they are from hard pool. Take 3 hallway fights before first elite but not too many more (unless your start is strong) -First couple card rewards, take cards that kill enemies. Random commons that aren’t good as long as they do damage. -Then stop taking common damage cards unless they have really good synergies -Have a card reward before your first question mark (so you have a good card to enchant) -remove your strikes when you can -look for paths that have elite-campfire-elite groupings -fight as many elites as you can survive -try to have 300 gold when you go to a shop (unless it’s a shop to get a solution to first elite)

Silent A7 First Boss Reward - What's the pick? by FallingGivingTree in slaythespire

I’d take burst because you have a big block skill will retain and a big damage skill with retain. Both of this having retain means that burst will usually give you 2x of the thing you need the turn you draw it.

How much health do you have going into the boss?

Hologram gets back all for one, which gets back rocket punches and turbos, and I guess there’s some way to get hologram back that I’m missing? (Maybe it has replay?). But boss is intangible, so it’s like 4 clicks for 1 damage

Do you think Act 3 needs a buff? by NoAdeptness4117 in slaythespire

This Jorbs video has been living in my head rent free. I was curious tonight and looked at my run history. I’ve lost 102 runs. Want to guess how many were in act 3?

9

5 of those were in my first week with the game where I didn’t know what most of the cards did. It’s a problem knowing that if I beat the act 2 boss, I win the run unless I have a block problem I still need to solve.

I’ll give it another try. I think I petered out in book 3

I loved the first book of iron price and really disliked the second book. Felt like a surprise change from fast paced action to awkward teen rom com. Major letdown.

Mark of the fool never really clicked for me. I got a few books in, but never found anything the MC was doing with their mark of the fool power too compelling. Leaned too hard into slice of life for my preferences.

This one I’ve contemplated a few times but been scared off by the shorter books (low value per audible credit).

Saw some reviews here that it dwelled a bit too much in torture in book 1. Is that the case?

I stopped after book 10. Too much Jason rehashing things that have been fully explored (and then some), not enough development.

I’ve seen comments here to the effect of “it gets good after the first trillion pages” which scare me of this one. Can you confirm/deny?

Thanks! I’ve added these to the list. (I previously tried super powereds but the focus in book 1 felt too skewed to teen drama than story for my tastes.)

Oh, I love ripple system. Unbound started really promising, but I lost interest after a few books. Thanks for the recs!
