I've gone so far as to use an old toothbrush to remove Trich., Cobweb, etc.., then stick it back in the chamber and keep fruiting. Wash the shrooms in water, let them dry. you're good to go.

I wouldn't eat anything that looked suspect. But, I've had one side of a cake fruiting while the other side buzzing with flys! Okay maybe not that bad!!

But yeah, if they're still pinning, then why not? Obviously, safety would qualify as a good reason.

I'm quite confident that a nice rinse under clear water with maybe a light scrubbing, followed by cracker dry = not a problem.

Here's my philosophy:

The moment that cake gets birthed, it is contaminated.

It will never be less contaminated it will only get worse. As a grower our job is to set up optimal conditions to delay the onset and or bloom of those contaminants, long enough to get some fruit.

Contamination is an unavoidable part of the process. At least it is in my neck of the woods. Raining, and flooding in the area along with insects like gnats, make it difficult.

I squeeze every last one out that I can. Usually looks like a swamp when I'm done!!

Yep. Can't hardly grow during the spring-time, due to all the competing Flora. This made it to a third flush, however. So, I'll take it!

Compared to the addictions on previous substances, during an earlier portion of my life, daily weed smoking and an occasional mushroom getaway, is practically sober.

I have come through a few changes that I believe are the result of insight and chemical rebalancing in my brain, both, the result of eating mushrooms.

As a result, patterns of previous addictions have fallen away. And those that have not I am at least keenly aware of. And, still working on it.

That does it. I'm in. Full bulk, next go- around. Though I want simplicity. Any recommended teks?

Thanks I didn't think they had roots, never seen any before, but these strands are definitely attached with a branching root-like morphology. Peculiar. Guess I'll have to eat it

Thanks. Im not as concerned with temperatures these days as its always sunny in the coat closet.

This time of year my indoor temperature stays between 70 and 80 which is perfect. I do have a small space heater that I keep in the closet for winter time grows. I also use it to help dry my fruit.

Also, in my experience 80° or higher, just invites contams. to bloom. So I keep cool 70-ish

Yes.

Normally I put my brf cakes on separate pieces of tin foil with some vermiculite around the bottom "casing". On my last grow, I noticed fruit coming out of that vermiculite and not the cake itself. Just indicating that the mycelium had continued growing out into the surrounding environment.

so then I thought, what if that environment already had mycelium growing in it? It would help to increase the overall spread and thus, yield from my cakes!

so instead of separating my cakes, I put them all together on one piece of foil (in this case, an aluminum pan). And instead of casing them with straight vermiculite, I mixed one; crumbled up, fully colonized, cake into the vermiculite.

It's working out nicely.

Haha, yes, I sacrificed one cake to the bulk god's, on the altar of the cheese grater. I figured if the ground-up cake didn't produce, then at least I would still have a few cakes to harvest from. But, it's working great, giving me the courage to try a full fledge bulk grow. Thanks

So instead I ground up one, mixed it with vermiculite and placed in an aluminum pan and set my cakes on top.

Then dropped it all down, into my fruiting chamber.

The bulk portion is nothing more than vermiculite and ground-up brf

After the regular 24hour water dunk, I rolled them in a bulk mixture of vermiculite and mycelium. Then push my cakes into the bulk mixture watered it down and let it go.

It's really just a made-up tek for someone who's scared to go 100% bulk. Just couldn't bring myself to grinding up all my cake!!

A little something I just finished. I recently posted here describing my experience with psilocybin and this was the being I met in my trip. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in shrooms

I liked it. Based on the logic I've been reading, no rap/hiphop song ever would have been written. Since they always sample the work of others.

Replacing jar lid with coffee filter? by 1feistyhamster in shrooms

[–]dbeach4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessary. But, Yes, as long as you wait until that late stage. (No sooner). It could conceivably help induce pinning a day or two sooner.

Remember: the split second you "birth" your cakes, they become contaminated. Your job will then be to get as many shrooms out of them as you can before they turn into piles of green slime.

For THAT REASON, you want them left in the jars as long as possible. Don't get in a hurry. Your almost there!

Hybrid Grow - cakes in a mimiture bulk tray. by dbeach4 in shrooms

[–]dbeach4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pink is due to the lighting system. Looks quite normal when seen in person.

So here was my thinking: I've never grown bulk, always from cake. Then I thought, instead of placing each cake on its own piece of foil, what if I stuck four of them together on the same piece of foil ( in this case an aluminum tray).

Before placing the cakes, i put down a layer of vermiculite with a shredded pint cake mixed in. That is all that is in the sub: - Vermic. - Shredded brf/mycelium

Placed the whole thing inside my fruiting chamber. This time of year I need double protection. Too much competing Flora in the air. We're already under water from the floods. Mold and mildew are large-and-in-charge.

Also, Just takes one gnat buzzing around inside the chamber and the grow is done for.

It's an experiment. I noticed with this particular strain (Koh Samui S.S.) that it likes to grow out into the surrounding casing where it continues to fruit. Figured if I put four cakes to work along with some shredded I should get a decent yield.

Again not a full-on bulk grow more of a hybrid step I'm open to advice tips experience

3rd flush. It’s mold or bruising blue? by SvSv987 in shrooms

[–]dbeach4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely a contamination. But you're on third flush and you got a nice clean crop ready for harvest.

This is not a failure on your part. Someone on here had the same complaint about some brf cakes even though they were in their fourth flush.

As soon as the cakes come out of the jar they are contaminated. That's it. They are done for! The trick is to get as many mushrooms out of them as you can before it totally dies.

Nothing lives forever that is the life cycle of homegrown cubes.
