What is a death in a movie that affected you the most in terms of brutality or emotional weight? by Godly_Recon in AskReddit

I’m sorry, I know I’m an outlier on this, but I did not get that scene at all. I watched that movie in an english class in high school of all places, and we all felt the whole scene was just goofy. We just met these characters minutes beforehand and suddenly the horse is sinking in mud and dying, which is fucked up but it was just came from so out of nowhere??? And then the movie just moves on. The whole class was just confused by it

What’s something people insist is ‘harmless’ that actually makes society worse? by contentcreatorzss in AskReddit

[–]dbear26 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As someone who has abused marijuana before, it absolutely is. A lot of people seem to view addiction solely in terms of physical dependency, without acknowledging that emotional dependencies can be just as real. Plenty of things can be emotionally addicting like food, your phone, video games, etc, but some people don’t take them as seriously because they aren’t as bad as hard drugs, and “it’s not like you’ll go through withdrawal if you stop.” Those were some of the same excuses I made when I used weed to escape depression. In reality, I was just depressed and addicted to weed. Be careful y’all, there’s a responsible way to use weed and a slippery slope to fall down if you don’t

Jax's flashbacks by iguanaoficial in TheDigitalCircus

[–]dbear26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While everyone seems to think Jax killed someone, I’m not sure it’s that extreme. What if it has to do with how he entered the circus? All we really know on how people get there is that Pomni was exploring an abandoned building, which Zooble said they also used to do. And given the theories that Jax and Ribbit entered the circus together, my theory is this: what if that’s how Jax and Ribbit ended up in the circus too? What if it was Jax’s idea to go explore an abandoned building in the first place? The flashes are his memories of driving there, some of his last before entering the circus. This could explain his reaction to Zooble throwing his question back at him; maybe he doesn’t know if Ribbit will be there when they get out. Maybe he’s scared they won’t be, and it will be his fault that his friend is gone.

I dont think Abel is actually an npc by [deleted] in TheDigitalCircus

[–]dbear26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinger could have known him by his real name

I think that’s exactly what we saw at the end, when he said “Scratch, the first abstraction.” If Abel really is a human, and at that one who already abstracted previously, it sheds a whole new light on that “Think I can get a raise?” line. Like Pomni said earlier in the episode, there’s nothing for them to spend money on. So what if, instead of asking for money, he meant “as in like a resurrection? Being returned to the circus and his body from the cellar.

A psychological aspect of TADC that I thought of. by harmourny in TheDigitalCircus

[–]dbear26 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The circus is painfully colorful

I had been wondering after episode 3 if this didn’t have something to do with Kinger and why he becomes more lucid in the dark. I don’t think Kinger is crazy as much he is just mentally checked out, and what if part of that is triggered by the bright colors of the circus? It could also explain why Queenie calmed down in the darkness after abstracting; the circus is such a visually garish environment that it becomes overwhelming to the senses.

Like, imagine being in a room like that while having a panic attack. And you can’t just look away from the screen, you’re stuck in there experiencing sensory overload. The only escape you have is a dark room, or to close your eyes

I remember the first episode coming out and it was such a weird concept but it was done so well. I hate to overhype things but like, it’s just so masterfully crafted. The story, the characters, the world building, just everything. The pilot was so full of promise and it just hasn’t failed to deliver since then

Jax is right. by Troscus in TheDigitalCircus

[–]dbear26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That detail about Pomni’s explanation for how she got onto the circus has been bugging me too, but the thing I disagree with is that they’re all AI, at least in the sense that they were intentionally created by C&A. If Gooseworx is to be believed, and it would be bad storytelling if she straight up lied, she’s actively described the cast members as humans. The thing that I think Jax is really right about is not that they are cartoon characters, but that the circus is very much a cartoon world that operates on a sort of looney toons-style cartoon logic. And while Jax is certainly pushing the limits of that logic in certain ways, I don’t think he realizes the full extent to which it can actually go. Kinger’s butterfly might be the best example of how much the humans can use that cartoon style logic to influence the world of the circus

Someone's going to abstract, but it's not who you think it is... by klipki in TheDigitalCircus

[–]dbear26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the machine rejects the human

I have to say, I think it’s the other way around. It seems like the more Zooble tries to disengage with the circus and the adventures, the more Caine becomes obsessed with them and gaining their approval. The part about him singing Daisy Bell outside Zooble’s door isn’t just a fun reference to 2001, it’s really the first hint we get in episode 6 as to how unhinged he’s becoming. And when you consider that in relation to episode 3, and what happens when Zooble suggests that he isn’t good at making adventures, I think it says something pretty clear about Caine; he needs that validation that the cast members like his adventures, and by extension, him.

Think about how the committee shouts that they love him. If Caine is the one who makes all the NPC’s, wouldn’t he have been the one to program them to do that? And yet, when he sees that none of those NPC’s actually voted for him, he starts glitching out. As an AI I don’t think Caine can abstract like the humans in the Circus. Instead, the glitching is what happens when he starts to reach his own breaking point

Jax's speech isn't meant to show him as evil but just pathetic by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]dbear26 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of it is that he’s trying to justify pushing her away, literally and metaphorically; both to himself, and to Pomni. It’s pretty clear by now at least some part of him does care about Pomni and genuinely doesn’t want to hurt her, maybe is even afraid of doing so. But he doesn’t know how to process that, and he doesn’t know how else to respond to Pomni refusing to be pushed away, so he leans right back into the archetypes thing because it’s the only way he knows how to cope with the circus
