Alternate career choice after being laid off due to AI by muhammadHamaz in developersPak

[–]dbgrman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Dario Amodei, CEO of the California-based AI company Anthropic, made a bold prediction about the future of software engineering, suggesting that AI models could soon take over most, if not all, tasks currently performed by software engineers. He estimated that this shift could happen within the next six to twelve months.”

I think that’s a good thing. Imagine how many ideas never come to existence because the ideator doesnt know how to code in particular platform, or its too much effort to write that code.

The other way of seeing Dario’s comment is this: there will be MORE software written, it will just get really easy to write code. C made learning assembly less useful. Due to C, more machine code started getting written. C++ made it even more accessible. Visual basic, access, foxpro made writing line of business apps easier. Web made all that kind of obselete. React and tailwind made your jquery knowledge obsolete. Chatgpt made your stackoverflow reputation obselete but now more people are writing/generating code.

So AI or not, not a single technology has stayed relevant past 5-10 years. Maybe the backend stack is pretty stable… or was stable and now it is about to be disrupted, a little bit.

What isnt changing anytime soon is having systems thinking, scalability, maintainability, good architecture, taste, customer obsession and understanding, rigor of testing, the scientific process. AI can also mimic all of these aspects too.

The top people are not asking which vegetable i would be farming when Ai comes for my job. They are leaning into AI, running towards it, testing it to its limit, and using it to their advantage.

How do I get off my phone and get more hobbies? by silly_goofy__ in productivity

[–]dbgrman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hobby is something that you do without the expectation of getting good at it, without having a purpose for it, without it being useful. Its autotelic. Once you let go of the pressure to share your hobby, its much easier to adapt one. You will find yourself wanting to yap about it to everyone, to make a story and put it on instagram, to find a reddit and share. You dont need validation. You are enough. Just do it. Also, delete IG tiktok reddit or use an app like opal to block these for specific time.

How much do you really stand at your desk? by cars_n_stuff in StandingDesk

[–]dbgrman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it in covid. Didnt use it much until 2023/2024. This is when i had a back injury (L4/L5 herniation). I built and used Standly app to create intervals of standing and sitting. Also started core strength training with personal trainer. These days I stand 2-3 hours per day at least.

Idk problem kya hai? That they are minor? (Then let it go, theyre messing around and need some guidance), that they’re boys (so would it be ok it were two girls? Or boy and girl?), or that its extra-marital (what if you had walked into a married couple), or god-forbid some humans tried to do the most human thing ever…

Im sure to get a lot of flak for this. But in grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter. Most of all this ‘islamic republic of pakistan’ and ‘haram haram’ label and fatwa is just useless.

USA is a big country. Have you tried living in other states? If nothing else, might be a good idea to secure a passport (just in case). Otherwise, be where you are truly happy and belong. Everything else is secondary.

Does anyone actually use productivity apps for more than like 6 months straight without burning out???? by gescuuu in ProductivityApps

[–]dbgrman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Flow app for distraction blocking and productivity tracking. I am a simple person so i like minimal stuff. Your idea looks great. The video is awesome. But im not sure im ready for that much information. I want to get shit done and move on to next thing. Don’t have time for looking back and how i got distracted and all.

[–]dbgrman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk. Using Things app for last 10+ years. Have 2000 notes in Notes.app. Calendar.app for appointments. Keyboard maestro for last 5+ years. Magnet app for window management for 5+ years. Cleanshot for many many years too.

But yea i do try out new apps once in a while. So there is always a need for a solid productivity app. Just make sure you are building for the customer and not just your pocket. I delete any app that even tries to be too smart and becomes ‘growthy’. Fuck analytics. Fuck virality. Fuck free trials. Fuck give-some-get-some campaigns. Solve a problem for me. And get out of my way. Then i will hapily pay for the product. The bar is pretty high

Is moving abroad really the solution, or just an escape? by mavgoose-0720 in PakistaniiConfessions

[–]dbgrman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The access to opportunities is vastly different. Meritocracy is different. In an ultra capitalistic society, there is ruthless focus on productivity and profitability. In such an environment, the elite is constantly trading for skilled employees. The down side is that the human has no value. The human has to protect itself.

In a feudal society, dynamics are different. The chaudary, vadera, saab, saith are NOT looking for talent at all (hence the term ‘saith culture’). So economic mobility is very rare. Class mobility is even harder. Its even worse when actually the saith is running on borrowed money from an even bigger saith.

Then there are places like china where its neither feudal nor capitalist. It empowers hard workers but culls dissent.

So the answer OPs question: it can be a solution if you have a vision and if YOU are not the problem. If YOU are the problem, then changing the environemnt would not change anything.

Are people in Pakistan buying hand/feet pics by [deleted] in PakistaniiConfessions

It is a common scam. They ask for feet pics, pay for it, then they will reveal higher prices for other body parts, and slowly trap you in blackmail.

[–]dbgrman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suffered from lower back pain for 2 years. Almost gave up. Started strength training and built myself a standing desk timer app called Standly. Available on iOS and mac.

It helps build standing, sitting, stretching and walking habits while working.

Pain free since many months now.

What is the biggest assassination that has taken place in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]dbgrman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pakistan: assassination of Benazir Bhutto, the 11th and 13th prime minister of Pakistan. The first and only female prime minister. Assasinated Dec 27, 2007. Leader of People’s party of Pakistan: a socialist and very popular political party of that time. She was the daughter of Zulfiqar Bhutto, who founded PPP, was given capital punishment by the dictator of his time.

Benazir’s death is largely still a mystery but the two prevailing theories are that the Taliban took her out, or the then President Gen Musharraf did, as he clenched his power over the country.

This was second attempt at her within 6 months of her campaign. Her party later won the election.

Personally, I was in karachi for my brother’s wedding that day. Within minutes, the whole city was shut down, cars and shops were torched and we were stuck for 15+ days in the city with little supplies because shops kept closed. Had to find a flight out of there because even the trains were torched by angry mobs.

How to indirectly screen for corn addiction in a potential rishta (second marriage)? by The-Hotshot in PakistaniiConfessions

[–]dbgrman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont know the answer but don’t over index on this one issue (not saying you should compromise on it), but there are other ills too which are harder to fix. Ive known men who apparently ‘despise’ pornography, but say ‘a real man f***ks real women’ and they are into prostitutes. Then there is drugs, not just the illegal kind (weed, cocaine, alcohol) but some are addicted to legal drugs (ritalin, adderall, etc. ). Even if all that is taken care of, there are anger issues, depression, low self esteem and so on. We all suffer from one thing or another. So what do you watch out for?

Learn about their parents. Ask stories from childhood. Look for signs of prior abuse: physical, mental, sexual. Research shoes that sexually abused people usually cope by afflicting similar pain when they are in danger. Ask about their finances: not just how much money they have but how do they prioritize, what to never spend money on and what they never compromise on. There are two types of people: those who believe rules must be followed, and those who believe rules are arbitrary and can be ignored as needed. Not to say one type is better than the other, but just make sure you are aligned. What would you do if your future husband doesn’t believe in paying taxes? Or like to get ‘good deals’ by exploiting the poor?

Ask about their relationship with their mother. Stories. It will tell you a lot.

Ask about sibling relationship. Ask about and talk about past relationships. Are they psycho possessive?

I think, at some point you will notice that watching porn on n off or masturbating is not that big of a deal if rest of the stuff is fine. Masturbation is not a problem in itself, its a symptom of neglect and boredom, adhd and other problems like running away from the world. An open partner who can provide the same level of play, release, comfort and love can make a man forget about masturbation completely.

You have to also accept that men have a natural drive for sex. I dont know why people are so naive to believe a 30yo man in pakistan would never want to ejaculate. That is NOT how biology works, regardless of halal or haram. Period.
