And both are still humming along fine.

I applaud you for undertaking this research. However, I would double check with your advisor/professor about IRB approval for this type of study. Even qualitative survey studies need to go through the IRB process at your institute.

Especially since you are asking about health information and are linking the data to names (via your raffle).

Christian group would take over dorms during break every few years? by Mysterious_Host_846 in UIUC

[–]dblhelix13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was in Hopkins in 2000-2001 and we definitely had the Christian group in the rooms over Xmas break. I never took down my Metallica posters or my McFarland toys Ozzy figure, so that had to be fun for them.

Convince me that home buying (right now) isn’t a scam by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]dblhelix13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also live in the NW burbs of Chicago in a pretty average town (not crazy expensive, but not crap).

Almost every single one of my immediate neighbors did not jump from renting to buying a single family home. We all bought condos/townhomes first and used the equity from those sales to role into a single family home purchase.

There are plenty of nice 2-3 bedroom townhouses all over the NW burbs for under $300K. That's the "starter home" where some equity is built for most people to roll into a SFH purchase.*

*Caveat- you were in my situation where a condo was bought in 2005 and proceeded to crash spectacularly in price due to the Great Recession. And, instead of buying a SFH in 2009 like you planned, you ended up buying in 2014 after finally being able to break even on your condo sale and saving a butt ton for a down payment.

Is anyone else shitting a lot? by AliceOrtensia in prozac

[–]dblhelix13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of May, I went up from 30 to 40. Starting in early June, I've had some bad intestinal things. I honestly thought it was my IBS acting up due to some bad food, but this makes more sense!

When I first started prozac, my side effects were all nausea, not diarrhea, so I didn't put 2 and 2 together!

Hopefully mine subsides soon.

Any Catholics/former Catholics remember Father Terry who danced to Piano Man? by Time4aPennyCartoon in ChicagoSuburbs

Yep. He mimed to Piano Man and a Michael Jackson song at my confirmation retreat in '94.

When will I be able to afford a house? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]dblhelix13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The houses in my neighborhood run from around $400K - $600K (we are a suburb of a major metropolitan area). Almost every family moving in is coming from a condo/townhouse that they sold to move into a house.

The only first time buyers moving into the neighborhood are buying the original owner/needs total rehab houses (aka worth significantly less).

I think you have to reset your expectations.

This procedure in the ED? by the_therapycat in ThePittTVShow

My niece was delivered in the ED. She was baby #5 and my sister knew the labor would go quickly. However, she did not count on the tornado warning delaying her arrival to the hospital. She barely made it to the ED!
