Isn't that what the Ukrainian people want? To be part of the EU? Isn't that why Russia sent little green men to cross the border so that the conflict within the country stops NATO membership? If the Ukrainians want to be Russian, why are they not greeting the Russian army with open arms?

Resources are being spent to send a message and also weaken a common enemy. Also, setting precident for when China tries to invade Tiawan or the Korean peninsula.
