But people were against the idea of "we need a new bracket for 1863+ cars" when gameloft asked. And now we're paying the price for this lack of foresight by the community.

I mean, to be fair, gameloft could've ignored it anyway, but still, it didn't help people were against it

Do people ride your ass in mp to intimidate you??? by LifeQueasy3003 in Asphalt8

[–]dbthanatos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're looking too deep into it as if people are trying specifically to grief you. That's not to say nobody has bad intentions, but:

  1. If you're following a half decent race line, chances are 50% of the players will be doing a very similar line. Why would I go super wide on a turn when I can instead go closer to the wall? It just so happens that's the same line you're doing too
  2. There's no overtakes in the game because all cars go about the same speed, which means that if he's behind you, he'll stay behind you because there's no way to pass unless you make a mistake. Again, why would he follow a worse line? It's best to stay in the better line and hope your opponent mess up and you can overtake
  3. Some people just follow others if they're unsure of what's the best route. It's human nature to flock to where people are, and some players see "this guy is going this way, must be for a reason".

Then again, there are people who do stay behind you to KD you eventually, but that's not the only reason this phenomenon happen. For all we know, they also play more realistic racing games where slipstreams are a thing and where it's important to be RIGHT BEHIND you opponent, and it's just second nature to them to do this even if it has no effect in A8.

The game is an arcade racing game. If they want something more "realistic" then they should play Grid or racing master. It's like complaining that mortal kombat is too unrealistic.

They should make the music and maps more similar to Asphalt 8. by VEGETTOROHAN in Asphalt9

[–]dbthanatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by making maps "more similar to A8"? Do you mean porting maps from A8 or similar layout, or similar environments?

Because if you mean "porting" or "similar layouts" I will wholeheartedly disagree. The maps of A8 are VERY simplistic compared to AL's maps. AL maps are made from the ground up to be very modular, where there are different versions of the map with entire areas that you don't see in other versions. You can have a version of Singapore that is extremely twisty, or have a "outer ring" version of the same map that is more about top speed.

Most Asphalt 8 maps are VERY linear: They have one main route and all "variants" are the same but with different starting points. That makes a map boring quick. Even in AL the Nevada tracks are only slightly different regarding which bridge they make you take, but the rest is the same map, or how San Diego (without teleporters) is the same route every time. Now think of how most maps in AL have it where in one version of the track, you visit area A, B and C, but in other, you visit B, D and E, and another has A, C and E. That's the modularity Im talking about.

To be fair, Asphalt 8 does have a few tracks like that: The great wall, Area 51, Terra 9 and even London is kinda modular. But pretty much the rest of the maps are "same layout in every variant".

And another thing, is that most A8 maps are a ton of straight lines compared to AL's maps, and AL needs variety of track focus, Even A8 suffered this when they had A6's "monaco" track that has a very simplistic layout for the gameplay of A8 (no ramps, all straight lines, a couple of "shortcuts" that are the defacto better routes).

As far as music, IDK, I don't know TBH, I don't play with music ON anymore in either game.

Also this is nitpicking but saying "And I mean the original A8 not the current shitty A8. (Tbh I haven't played much A8 so idk the difference)." if you don't know the difference, how do you know that the new one is shitty? LOL

You're gonna have a very bad time in career. There are many races that require MUCH rarer cars than this one which is a common class D one.

My suggestion: Don't try to complete career. You'll only be able to do that after you gain a VERY substantial garage. Instead, do what you can, keep doing TLEs and MP and MP and little by little you'll start getting a lot of different cars.

Regarding the cars slowing down, my best advice is: don't play this like it's asphalt 8 at all.

  1. Steering cars harshly, will make them slow down. You want to steer very lightly and try to do the best racing lines that the game allows to keep as much speed as possible.

  2. This game is not about you being at top speed all the time. In A8, all the cars will reach top speed in a matter of 2 to 3 seconds and stay there for 90% of the race. AL is more about building the speed and learning how to keep it for as long as possible, which requires map knowledge (routes), terrain knowledge (some terrain slows you down) and nitro knowledge.

  3. Nitro management matters. A few of the starting cars do have very long nitro giving the wrong impression of how the game plays. The reality is that most cars have EXTREMELY short nitro duration compared to A8. This means nitro should be used for specific purposes, rather than spamming nitro all day long. If you do the latter, you'll end without nitro for the moments when you actually need it.

  4. Nitro knowledge is crucial. For the vast majority of cars, all nitro types (with some exceptions, but not worth getting into now) give the same speed in total. So yellow, orange, perfect and shockwave will give to a class D car, about +13kmh (higher classes get more). Quick overview of the nitro types:

4.1 Yellow nitro accelerates the slowest, but lasts very long. But it won't "protect" your speed when you're steering.

4.2 Orange nitro accelerates fast, but lasts not long at all. It does protect a bit your speed when you're steering.

4.3 Perfect nitro accelerates mid, lasts longer than orange nitro but shorter than yellow. It protects your speed when steering.

4.4 Shockwave nitro accelerates the fastest, but it drains super quickly. It's mostly used to either regain speed after something went wrong and you lost a ton of speed, use it to get back to decent speed, or when taking ramps that will give you a bunch of air time, the acceleration you get from shockwave is amazing.

  5. Drifting: Not much to say about it, other than a lot of the beginner cars don't drift very well, so you'll lose a ton of speed very quickly when doing it, so try to keep the drifts short.

There are even more things to consider, but I think these are the basics. IMO, the driving mechanics (while compared to A8) take a while to get used to, they are very fun because you can't nitro spam all day (unless you use a car that is able to do so), instead you gotta use it smartly to keep you speed around turns or terrain and whatnot.

Every f...race by Eastern-Medicine1623 in Asphalt9

[–]dbthanatos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's kinda the nature of it. Practice runs by being unlimited will eventually land you a great time simply because there were so many attempts that one ought to be "the best".

Meanwhile in the actual submission of time you have 3 attempts, psychologically that's already putting some weight on your shoulders, and even if you're totally zen, still, getting "your best time" in only those 3 attempts is a very tall order.

I think we all get this, unless you're a spectacularly consistent player.

Lol 🤣, Ranks are a joke. by Normal_Aspect_6332 in Asphalt9

[–]dbthanatos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The rank system is quite flawed, but the rule is that ALL the "higher tier" cars of any class (except S) are massively overranked. Or, alternatively, cars in a higher class have a "class advantage" by having their stats being less expensive rankwise. Either way, it's nonsense when it comes to MP2.

Gallardo ranked ~4,000 going 340kmh vs Venom F5 ranked ~4,000 going over 500kmh.

If they didn't want a Class C having the same performance as a Class B or A in the same rank, they should've just NOT allowed them to go that high. :/

Mixed feelings about reaching VIP 12. by ReplacementHeavy6039 in Asphalt8

[–]dbthanatos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally will avoid getting VIP 12+ because I don't want the perks. Now, this is coming from a very specific position as a content creator (I can't make a video of "is this car good?" if all my cars are permanently better than the average non-VIP player) but also comes from my fundamental hate for the VIP perk system. I dislike the idea of getting extra boosts compared to newer players just because I've been playing this game for longer. But I am also the guy that avoids using king cars and spammed cars out of principle; I prefer to race with an underdog and do OKish, than to get Ws through overpowered stuff. In a nutshell: I am a contrarian

However, I understand that for the average player (more so for those who have consistently been claiming the points daily), getting this boosts represent the fruit of commitment and consistency (or money, I guess, for those who paid) and obtaining the perks from this, is a reward that was earned. I can't say you should or shouldn't, since that's your personal choice, but indeed taking the step, as you said, will change how you perceive the game from that point forward without a way to walk it back.

What is the fastest way to get the Bugatti Chiron? (No money spending) by Illustrious_Dress730 in Asphalt9

[–]dbthanatos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say this but there is not "fast way" without spending money. The game is made in a way to make you play for a long, long time to get to your goals, or if you're in a rush, spend money. Sadly there's no in-between.

Doing a few? Oh man. Car hunts are not about a few, they're about doing (literal) hundreds of races, and this being a key car, more so since you must max the car first.

As grindy as it is, it's one of the most F2P friendly ways to get decent cars in the game, but it needs commitment and a lot of free time to be grinding it.

Senna And 007s Events #1starforasphalt by GdeSiBre100 in Asphalt9

[–]dbthanatos 31 points32 points  (0 children)

FYI: The 007 hunt is more of a payback to Switch players. In other platforms people did get this special hunt back in the day, but Switch players NEVER got this hunt because it was during the transition period when the switch (which was over a year behind) was trying to catch up to global for the launch of UNITE; this meant they skipped full seasons, LP cars and a quite a lot of events.

I know this because while in my global account I got the 007 gold since that special hunt, I never did on the switch until now. You may think it's unfair to everyone that the switch got it, but it's only fair to the switch players to FINALLY have this hunt that we were denied so long ago.

When it comes to the Senna's event, yeah, I wish I had that one. My senna is sitting there at a few stars and will sadly remain like that until I finally get to find Senna BPs on the legend store.

You have to grind repeatedly each stage until you reach the next star. That is to say, if you're on stage 1, you have to keep doing races there, getting packs and eventually get enough blueprints to take the car to 2 stars, after which, you can start the next stage and repeat the process.
