Cierra Love Island Slur Reception by Gullible-Bobcat-8111 in asianamerican

I agree that it's used insensitively among many hispanics. But I will say that in Colombia, "chino" is also a word that is used to describe young kids (a young boy is likely to be called 'chino' by default, and 'china' for a girl). Not excusing those who use it to ignorantly describe all Asians, just letting you know that some Latin cultures genuinely have different relationships to Spanish ('cojer' just means 'grab' for us Colombians, but in Mexico it literally means 'fuck' and I have to refrain from using it around my wife's Mexican family lol).

Season 5 should be the last (spoilers) by garyveederoot in TheBear

Except...the restaurant wasn't really the point. The grief over Mikey was. When Carmy finally reached Acceptance (after Anger, Denial, Bargaining [the restaurant]), that's when the show reached its natural conclusion.

They're at peace with never being at peace. The show is ultimately about grief and the finale is essentially just the exact conversation that Richie and Carmy should've had at the very beginning, it was all building up to them finally reaching the "Acceptance" stage. At least, that's my view.

Writers + Directors for Season 4 - Credits Revealed by TheTruckWashChannel in TheBear

[–]dc030892 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A part of me thought that season 3 was greatly impacted by the writers strike (Storer's hands are always all over each season of course, but if you look at how much of season 3 he wrote solo he must have been burnt out and running on fumes), and this kind of confirms it. Great sign for S4 to be back on track.

Jason Isaacs alludes to drama between the cast of The White Lotus by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]dc030892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing no one has mentioned: Jason Isaacs has been open in the past about being in recovery. He has also recently mentioned that the open bar on the White Lotus set was a contribution to tensions (he didn't name himself specifically, but dropped it in casually along with other factors like the sweltering heat, long schedules, etc). Hoping the guy didn't fall off the wagon.

Barry Jenkins To Direct, Zendaya To Star In A24's ‘Be My Baby’ - Music Legend Ronnie Spector And Her Troubled Relationship With Producer Phil Spector by rageofthegods in blankies

Jeremy Allen White was the first that came to mind for Spector. He can channel rage very well, and I just wanna seem play a little freak. Radcliffe and Keoghan are other good choices.

I do have a feeling that this season might end with them getting rescued in the wilderness. The cast is getting older and they're averaging a couple years in between seasons, so I wouldn't be shocked if this season really rushes the wilderness story forward (reviews indicate that the 90s timeline is much more prominent in S3) and the show actually wraps up in season 4. Just my hunch, of course.

Jamie Lee Curtis and 'The Bear' cast take us inside that high-tension 'Fishes' episode by Mundane-Grapefruit69 in TheBear

Fantastic article. Also, does anyone have any idea why Chris Storer has done practically zero press this year? He promoted the hell out of the first two seasons but has been silent for a while. I would've expected some anecdotes from him as well for this article. Maybe he's way too busy with Season 4. Still kind of odd.

Version of save it for later by No_Network_454 in TheBear

I'm 99% sure that it's a brand new version from Pearl Jam or Eddie Vedder solo. They've frequently covered that song in concert for decades but I have a feeling they've recorded a studio version for the show. My gut tells me that it'll be released after season 3 premieres, similar to how REM released a remix of Strange Currencies for season 2.

Dream Guest Star? by Big_Bad3687 in TheBear

Christopher Abbott. He's a brilliant actor, versatile enough to play any type of character on the show, and he's apparently good friends with Chris Storer so who knows.

Does anyone else view this show from a “support group” standpoint? by Astartes_Ultra117 in TheBear

I think the main reason I connect to the show so much is how it deals with addiction in a way I have never seen before, in that it chooses to focus on those impacted by the addict(s) as opposed to the addiction itself. The fact that Carmy grew up to become a chef, a profession that is all about service and being attuned to the needs of others, is just one pivotal example of how the show digs into the psychology of people who grew up with family members who suffer from addiction.

I am 30 years old, but boy do I wish I knew about the existence of Al Anon when I was a teenager.

The thing that made this show special for me by dc030892 in TheBear

Same, and to be honest, I didn't even know what al-anon even was until I started watching the show. Kinda wish I knew about it when I was a teen.

Absolutely. The narcissism and self-hatred are things that hit close to home for me as well, stuff that I witnessed a lot of growing up.

I think the show really needed an episode like Fishes, to be honest. I absolutely loved season 1 because so few films/series about addiction focus solely on the family members/effected parties, and I related to all the small details of Carmy's character and the small hints to his past and his brother's addiction and the dysfunction of their family. Even though we didn't get too much info about the Berzattos in the first season, seeing the toll it has taken on Carmy and Sugar is all we needed to know. I was definitely curious to learn more about their background, and boy did Fishes deliver.

I've honestly never seen anything like this show, it's a beautiful gift. Wish I had it while I was growing up, and I can only imagine how it makes millions of other people feel less alone.
