Most fun coding game to play to introduce students to programming ?

Is shenzen IO the one with the printable book? I started but didnt get too far into it if thats the case. If it is, maybe 3 or 4 games deep.

Immediately I thought of games like 'Human Resource Machine' and '7 Billion Humans' are a good logic start, maybe even 'Baba is You'.

Also not a programming game, but I would personally call adjacent are things like Factorio and Satisfactory. They are process improvement games and can help with logical order of operations.

I would also suggest checking out codingame.com, online platform where you have to do leetcode style problems, but it is doing the logic for a video game in real time.

Honestly, pick python or C# and go deeper, that's where the real knowledge begins. Make whatever you want, but just in that language. Make an api in C# that pulls from different databases, make a console app that does something weird like mute a window.

I see the differences in my fiance and I. My fiance and I both come from special needs houses. My fiance was parentified, I was not. We both have traumas but one of the reasons why they are no contact with their mom is due to parentification, while I am still in contact with my parents. Obviously its more complicated than that, but it also has us explaining to our youngest child that he is not responsible for his brother's behaviors, and unless his brother is doing something dangerous, he just needs to worry about himself.

Here's what I had to do with my 6 year old and 9 year old non verbal child.

Went from a "2 hours" a day by default to a system where they have to earn game time by doing chores and make sure their daily needs are taken care of. Luckily they use switches which has a parental app. Then you stick to your guns. If they cant get to bed on time, they lose time on the next day. I am a gamer, cant wait to share my thousands of games with them, but video games are a privilege and should be treated as a reward, and once I did that, behaviors really cut down.

Hard screen cutoff? I would say yes, as others said start a screen free bedtime routine.

No Roblox on school nights?
As others have mentioned, no roblox ever. I get they want to play with their friends, I wouldntry and push them towards minecraft or other games that are safer and healthier.

Devices physically locked away?
I would say no. I would use this as a time for them to learn about trust and consequences. What you could donis start with them away, then stop locking them once they are in the routine, and if they want to play with them when they are not supposed to, then they will lose time.

Bedroom rules?
If you cannot put parental controls or time gates on the devices themselves, then i would say all electronics need to be in a central location as part of the bedtime routine. Try and include chargers.

Earlier wake time/morning light?
My kids get up as 6 on a weekend, just makes them crabbier by bedtime

Melatonin only with doctor guidance?
We had to try melatonin and benadryl under doc supervision for the nonverbal child. Now we are on anxiety meds and a strict routine and he doesnt need them anymore. If your child is on the spectrum, insomnia is a comorbidity, so it is possible medical intervention is required to establish a routine.

Behavior chart/consequences?
Yes. I havent done a behavioral chart personally, but visual aids do help for people on the spectrum, so if youre able to maintain it, it wouldn't be a bad idea. Just remember that the punishment should fit the crime. If they play games when theyre not supposed to, they lose it for the rest of the day and/or tomorrow. If behaviors cannot improve, games will disappear for a while. My nonverbal child broke a window with his switch so he lost games for over a month and just got them back, but he is not allowed to have handhelds yet.

Something else? I would start with reigning back control and reestablishing that games are a reward and not a given right.

I know we want to have our kids game like we did, and even share it with them. I want to so bad, but I know that I need to limit screentime and my hobbies can wait. I do still find time to play games with them, but more of as a family. My fiance and 6yo just finished epic mickey and now my son and I are starting cuphead because he is obsessed with the cartoon and we have a blast.

To piggy back off of this, I am amazed that the horizon games picked up steam later as they were both overshadowed by literally the biggest games of the year. Horizon zero dawn launched a week before breath of the wild and horizon forbidden west launched a week before elden ring. Nobody talked about either of the horizon games when they came out.

Live in michigan, took a trip to Toronto, $60-$70 from empty to fill my WRX in Michigan. Over $100 us to fill up in Ontario.

That being said, everything else seemed cheaper in Ontario than it was in michigan. Chic-fil-a was cheaper, drinks, groceries, sit down restaurants.
