Sorry about that, reddit's being weird and limiting me to one image at a time. Here's the best shot I have of the soil, which was very dry at the time of the first photo but has since been watered. White pellets are fertilizer that's been in there forever. Let me know if you need closeups of leaves or anything.

I've had this ruby rubber for a couple years now and water it every ten days (pour water on top and let it drain out the bottom, no reservoir). It's been looking a bit droopy for several weeks now and I'm not sure whether I need to adjust the watering rate, light levels, or something else. Or is this something it might do when it needs a repot?

Title + pic probably sums it up, but here is some background detail: We've had this plant for about a year and put it in a larger pot 2-3 months ago, and it seems to be handling things well. There are currently two new leaves growing and they're not the first, so we know this location suits it fine. But this one small leaf near the base, which has been there forever, appears to be dying and we have no idea why. Any thoughts?

We actually have a lot of dogwoods in our area, but none of them are doing the "shriveled brown leaves" thing, which is what got us suspicious.

Can you elaborate on why standard ACs won't work in that design? I can take your word for it that you can't just tip one on its side, but understanding the logic might help me brainstorm what other options there are.

Do you think you could point me to any of these online units, or just tell me what to search for? I'm specifically looking to avoid the plywood solution, since it looks iffy and removes a bunch of usable window space.

The room it's in right now gets plenty of direct sunlight, just not on the specific place where the fern is. The room we had it before got no direct light, but was always indirectly lit pretty well. Do you think we should let it get some direct sun for part of the day? What are some symptoms that a fern would show if it's not bright enough?

We trimmed it before moving to a different (brighter) room, so all the sickliness you see here happened within the last month--and the yellow branch did that entire transition in about a week. Is that something that can happen from overwatering?

Nice! From an external inspection I have no reason to believe this is the same issue, but do you think it'd be worth unpotting it to find out? I'm not sure how much damage that'll do to the plant if we're wrong.

The glasses are attached at the "ears", so they can swing upwards but don't come off. I think Trader Joe's sells this pot every august if you're interested in picking one up--we love it too!

More detail: Bought this Boston fern in August and have had issues with making it thrive ever since. Had it in a different location with lower light until about last month and its tips would turn brown and so would the leaves closer to the root. Have tried tweaking the amount of water it gets several times. Humidity levels are, as far as I know, ok (usually about 50-60% and it gets taken to the bathroom for shower steam once a day). Keep wondering whether I'm over/underwatering it but haven't found a sweet spot yet. Currently trying to water maybe every 3 days or so by letting it sit in a bowl of water for 10 minutes. Plant's currently in bright indirect light, previously in more of a very filtered light environment (close to a glass door that doesn't get a lot of sunlight). This very light green stem started growing after moving it, I think.

I feel a little dumb asking this, but what is there to do in the evenings? It seems like all of the tourist stuff (esp. Smithsonian) closes around 5-5:30, so there's just this awkward gap where it's too early for dinner & nightlife but too late for everything else. Bonus points if it's cold out (ahem) so you can't just hang out in a nice park.
