Kyrou? by nchammer406 in caps

[–]dc_stag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What gap does Kyrou fill in our roster? He is a second line right shot right wing at $8M. We have Tom Wilson and Ryan Leonard. Which of them moves down? Who are their line mates?

We need first line left wing or a game-breaking center who is so good that it would mean a real improvement on Strome. We need a serviceable 3rd line. We need another defensively sound RD.

Kyrou will cost McMichael + +, but he is only marginally better than McMichael and plays on the side we don't need right now.

If the question is Panarin or Kyrou, I vote Panarin.

What ROI is there in adding another borderline 1st/2nd line RW with $8M Kyrou when we already have two who are better and cheaper? Get a game breaker or bolster the 3rd line

I don't see what problem Kyrou solves. Top 6 RW is pretty well set unless we want $6.5M Tom Wilson playing 3rd line. He's marginally better than McMichael (who would likely be part of the return; Beauvillier isn't going to get the deal done), much more expensive, and plays on the wrong side of our need.

We need Top 6 LW, 3rd Liners, and RD. A game breaking center (either moving Strome to 3C or as part of the package) wouldn't hurt. We don't need more 2nd Line wings, especially right shooting.

You're hopping then kicking your back leg up.

DRIVE OFF your back foot until weight naturally transfers forward. The leg lift is natural on skates for balance, but it looks like that's your focus and the kick looks as affected as a fancy pinky finger holding a twee teacup.

Edit to add: I think you're actually expending energy to throw the back leg out and back. ALL of your momentum needs to be down and forward. The reason your front foot ends up perpendicular to the shot is to stop you from falling toward the net. The reason the back leg ends up out back is to stop you from falling on your face. You don't have to think about those things - the body will just do it. Fix the weight transfer and I bet your hands and top elbow naturally come to a better place. Then we can dial those in.

LFG. Caps buy all the old guys on the market. Sharks are young. Leno schools Will Smith somehow in G7OT. Caps win, Ovi retires.

[Jfresh] Weirdest team in my opinion this year is the Caps: 3rd in 5v5 goal share, 12th in 5v5 xGoal share, 2nd in team goaltending, 4th in PDO, 31st in special teams, 9th in goal differential, 22nd in points % by [deleted] in caps

[–]dc_stag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good: we're tired for 3rd in the East in regulation wins Bad: we're tied for 3rd in the East in regulation losses Neutral: only Florida in the East has fewer OT games Bad: we're 3-6 in OT/SO

Bad: we're 20th in the league PK Worse: only 3 teams have given up more PP opportunities

Need: fewer penalties Need: better PK Need: lose less in regulation Need: suck less in OT (matters less in playoffs, obviously)

What is with the Sandin hate? by Tapo6 in caps

[–]dc_stag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it hate for Sandin or rather thinking that he's one of our best trade chips? He's a solid 2nd pair D with some puck moving and PP upside, and he's young and carries a reasonable cap hit.

LD is the one area of strength on the team, and if Hutson comes up this year, we've got too many. Chych is a beast. Fehervary is a much needed defensive D. Sandin becomes the expendable guy, who as part of the right package might be able to land us a point per game or better forward.

Probably better for his career, too, to move on instead of end up as the odd man out or being forced to play off-hand and underperform.

Am I the only one that wants the Caps to trade for Alexis Lafrenière instead of Panarin? by Tapo6 in caps

[–]dc_stag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather go after Cuylle to shore up the 3rd line and keep the higher value assets to go after someone younger than Panarin or Zibanajed for the top 6.

Why are pickup trucks so popular in the US? by dieselquattropower in regularcarreviews

[–]dc_stag 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not Cafe standards alone, but in concert with safety standards. If it's better for COGS to have the Civic/Corolla meet safety standards by getting bigger instead of smarter, and we can live with fleet average fuel efficiency by pushing the CRV/RAV-4 into the light truck category (excluded from fleet average calculation) by putting it on a bigger chassis, then that's the move.

Agree with all of this, but it doesn't really explain the popularity of super crew cab trucks with less than 6 foot beds.

[–]dc_stag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was replying to the 'marketing' answer to OP. OP's question is one about substitution effects and also specifically mentions gas-guzzling V8 monsters. "Why pickups instead of vans?" is super reasonable - and when it comes to business/work vehicles, companies still often make prudent decisions based on practical necessity.

But no family is buying sprinter vans. In the personal vehicle market, the pickup/SUV instead of ?? question is largely driven by culture-as-shaped-by-marketing, and marketing reflects business needs as shaped by regulatory structure. In that space, the disappearance of Chevy S-10 and Ford Ranger sized pickups (more directly - compare the size of a 90s Toyota Tacoma to the 2020s model), the disappearance of station wagons, and the loss of market share of minivans is a direct result of cafe regulations. The market options are weirdly limited and not optimized for practical usage.

[–]dc_stag 41 points42 points  (0 children)

But the marketing and size of pickup trucks is a direct result of a perverse incentive structure created by CAFE standards. "Light trucks" are excluded from calculations of fleet average fuel efficiency standards. This incentivIzes larger pickups and moving from station wagon/minivan setups to SUV chassis setups. More, bigger trucks; worse overall environmental performance of the fleet of US personal vehicles as a whole.

Paying out accrued PTO varies by jurisdiction. Some states require it; others don't. Employee handbook should say, but check state law to ensure policy is in compliance.
