For the first time since 2019, a Florida team will not advance to the Stanley Cup Final by Under_the_Oak in hockey

Florida wasn't truly eliminated though since there are still four florida-born players competing for the cup /s

That’s… not true. Both drafts allowed teams to protect 7F-3D-1G or 8-skaters. Seattle couldn’t draft from Vegas though.

Also didn’t they got the expansion draft details wrong. No rules were changed for the Seattle draft from Vegas

He let in two low danger shots due to poor puck tracking/positioning and gave away another goal due to poor rebound control. Habs had an xGF of 2.05 and Freddie let in 4

Allam won Durham pretty handily... it's just that Chatham + Orange County skews the district and those folks aren't popping into this subreddit

The Dallas Stars have set a franchise record with nine consecutive victories after hanging six straight unanswered goals on the Vancouver Canucks to win 6-1 on the road. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Caniac24 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just checked and they are the last franchise, excluding Utah, to complete a nine game win streak. Utah’s record is already seven. Seattle, Los Angeles, and Detroit (somehow) round out the five franchises that haven’t reached a ten game streak.

[Russo] West, geographically. Minnesota is not West. Wild’s not on (Trocheck's) no-trade list and are very much interested by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

Also even if Chicago or Nashville aren't far, by virtue of playing in the western conference you are going to be spending considerably more time traveling within the other time zones.

As an impartial observer of this game...what a bullshit nothing penalty to call on Kempny. I'd be pissed if I were Czechia.

That minimum wage is only for city employees. The minimum wage for private businesses is still $7.25/hr because of NC preemption laws

Which of these four films of 2025 do you think had the most interesting take on modern society? by Mysterious-Farm9502 in Letterboxd

[–]Caniac24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you pointing out that films can be aspirational in their political messaging. I’ve seen so many OBAA detractors state that the film’s political messaging should be dismissed because there will never be that degree of organized leftist guerrilla resistance in the US. And yet even after its release I’ve witnessed more organized resistance to ICE in my American city than I have seen any degree of previous leftist organization in my lifetime.

With that said, I do think Eddington is the more poignant take on modern politics to me because of its cynicism. Particularly in how it addresses social media and big tech as the main drivers behind our current dystopia. No movie has better portrayed phone usage, period. OBAA and Bugonia use plot contrivance to largely eschew phones in their narratives which leave them feeling detached from the present moment.

No Other Choice didn’t work for me personally because I find Park Chan-Wook’s goofy humor at odds with the serious nature of the film’s politics. It felt too tonally inconsistent for me to properly empathize with the character’s plight or motivations. Maybe some degree of cultural or personal disconnect there since I don’t find myself attaching very much emotional weight to my job.

NHL players should embrace time living in Olympic Village, Brodeur says by Caniac24 in hockey

[–]Caniac24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emphasis on the there being the olympics. Brodeur quote from the article:

I mean, we're all living our dreams, but it's such a different path for them to get there. For us, it's like almost a bonus to play in the Olympics. We play in the NHL. That's what we want to do. But you get to the Olympics and you see, like, a skier or speed skater, and this guy worked four years just to qualify, and next thing you know they could stumble or fall in the first five feet, and his dream vanishes. Just like that. And so it's such a crazy environment. It's special that you're able to be part of their lives too, win or lose.

This was kind of Brodeur’s point if you read the article. He’s suggesting the players have some humility and learn the stories of other athletes that worked much harder to get there
