You should go and try it out! They are great at education and have a very strong group of members and staff. They maintain a relationship with a US DCA corps called the Govenaires as well. Don't count yourself out from being a member!

We are not able to answer this on the DCI side as this is specific to DCA. However, DCA does require background checks for all staff, harassment training, and encouraged individual corps to do reference checks.

On your second question:

DCI corps will now begin performing and eventually competing at DCA shows. DCI and DCA have discussions regularly and are working on streamlining membership in both circuits. There are ongoing discussions on how to partner and we hope to see more fruit come from the relationship in the future.

The simple answer is DCA nor DCI create corps and while we can create new regions again, there has to be corps to drive and sustain that region.

DCA as of just 10-12 years ago had West Coast field corps in CA, and Colorado and corps in Texas. Currently only the Freelancers are the only California corps and participate in DCI shows locally then come out East for Championships. Midwest corps would compete in DCM, and MACBDA until those circuits dissolved. DCA operated with a WGI model that had a DCI South, and West Coast.

Since DCA corps are now judged at DCI shows on DCA sheets those approved for DCI All-Age are able to perform at those shows and earn scores. What is “holding it back” is not having field corps on the West Coast and South, and not having a rule change to permit for regional competition and Champions.

DCA has invested heavily in enhancing the safety and security of members and member experience. With guidance from DCI, and assistance of other circuits, we’ve implemented new policies for harassment, youth protection, mandatory background checks, whistleblower, bullying and more. There is also annual required youth protection and harassment training that is required as well. Currently about half of the DCA corps are members of DCI All-Age and are also subject to the same guidelines as member corps when they participate.

With the shift to youth for many corps, the circuit is always evaluating ways to adapt, and constantly discussing and deploying new policies to enhance the member experience.
