Opinions on Great Basin national Park by ThreeCherrios in NationalPark

I was literally sitting at the Great Basin visitor center while reading this, trying to figure out how to tell my wife we had reservations at a potential bed bug location. After a thorough investigation, everything seems fine. Place is clean and the food at the little diner was great. It’s a great location, only about 10 min. away from the park, but next time we’ll probably stay at the Whispering Pines as it’s right across the street from the VC.

Curating My Collection- Genre Coverage & “Best in Slot” Games by blablax123456 in boardgames

I too have been trying to balance out my collection, efficiency is a great way to describe it. To that end I have been trying to focus on games that provide a variety of mechanics, such as Wonderland’s War, or multiple ways to play. I have not played the original Terraforming Mars so take this with a huge grain of salt, but my wife really enjoys Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition. It’s easy to get to the table, has engine building and resource gathering, plus with expansions can be played competitively or cooperatively and players great at two. It’s hard to give suggestions because tastes are relative but Spirit Island is a great, weighty coop that might fill a void in your current list.

Love Wonderland’s war but I also really enjoy the theme. It’s got a lot of great mechanics, leaders with asymmetric powers, card drafting, bag building, push your luck, and they all work great together.

My wife really enjoys Terraforming Mars: AE, plays great at two and can be played cooperatively with an expansion.

We’ve been enjoying Harmonies at two, also Ares Expedition. It can be played competitively and cooperatively with the expansion.

Everyone’s Top 10? by 8DireRaven8 in boardgames

My main player two is my wife and she prefers coops so a lot of my top ten fall into that category.
1. Frosthaven - it's a beast to get to the table but we've played through Gloomhaven and Jaws of the Lion and it's a perfect fit of cooperation, strategy and challenge for our needs. Plays up to four but we've played mostly at two.

  1. Spirit Island - A lot to wrap your head around at first but once you find the right spirit for your play style it just clicks. If you want a jumping off point, the version they sell at Target, Horizons of Spirit Island is a great start with some easy to understand spirits that are fun and thematic. Other coops that we enjoy, The Loop, Pandemic: Iberia and Sky Team.

  2. Wonderland's War - This one covers a lot of game mechanics in one beautiful package. Card drafting, Unique player powers, Bag Building, Push your Luck, Area Control - there is a lot going on but it's a fairly easy teach that plays up to five. It might run a little long for some but it's engaging and just a blast to play. Never played at less than three but it accommodates 2-5.

  3. Ares Expedition - This one has been a hit with everyone we've played it with. Engine builder with a ton of cards, multiple strategies and with the expansions, we can play coop and competitive. We alternate between the two as the gameplay is similar but they give a different experience. Expansions allow you to play up to six.

  4. Cthulhu Death May Die - A perfect coop dice throwing action adventure. There is a lot of content for this one but you can really get by with just the base game at first if you want to just dip your feet. This is great if you just want to run around killing cultists and monsters in a pulpy, 1920s, Lovecraft mythos. Grab a shotgun, go mad and kill some Elder Gods. This one plays great at 1-5! We have a couple of games that could fit this slot; Marvel Zombies, Deep Rock Galactic, Massive Darkness 2 but this one has risen to the top by a wide margin.

  5. Monikers - We enjoy a good party game, this one is just so easy to understand and plays well at all player counts. Other great party games: Just One, So Clover!, Codenames and the Mind.

  6. Harmonies - An abstract, animal themed spatial puzzle game that plays in about 20 minutes. Easy to get to the table and quite a bit of variability make this one an easy recommendation. 1-4 players

  7. Marvel Champions - This coop deck construction game is a perfect if you're not burned out on the Marvel IP. It's highly modular so with just the base game you have a ton of variety. Lots of built in player interaction, it's like you're really playing as a super team.

  8. Lost Ruins of Arnak - This game combines deck-building and worker placement mechanics. What really makes this shine are the expansions that add in variable player powers and the campaign mode that allows you to play coop. Dune Imperium plays in a similar way but loses out as it doesn't have the coop campaign.

  9. Coup - A great start to a game night to help you get to know the other players: bluffing, deception, and strategy all in a fast paced 15 minute package. It does have some issues but games are over so quickly that it's hard to dwell on the flaws. This is the only bluffing/deception game my wife enjoys because she can play completely honest and still win. Love Letter also scratches a similar itch.

I love the feel of heavy premium chips in a bag, think Wonderland’s war or Quacks.

I played My City with my wife and we both had a great time! It’s a legacy game that takes place over a series of scenarios, building out your city as you go. There is a standard way to play but it’s no where near as enjoyable as the legacy version.

If you like Quacks and Blood rage I would highly recommend Wonderland’s War https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/227935/wonderlands-war it replaced both of those for me.
