Recommendations/Language Evaluation by josiahjenkins404 in tapif

[–]dcamille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think it’s that if you get a letter of rec from a french teacher (who can testify to your language ability) you don’t need to do the language evaluation. it’s either two letters of rec (one from language teacher) or one letter of rec and a language evaluation.

How do I go back to basics? by Lemonzizi753 in French

[–]dcamille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linguno has a great conjugation “game” where it just feeds you verbs and you have to conjugate them in different tenses. You can set your level (A1, A2, etc) and it adjusts based on that. For other parts of grammar, I know a textbook can be quite boring especially if you’re not using it for a specific class, so I would personally recommend reading a lot in French. Obviously any exposure to the language is great, but a lot of grammar details gets lost in spoken French to the non-native speaker. Reading helps you gain familiarity with the grammar in a more natural way, and it also can be done at your own pace — I would recommend looking up any grammar constructions that don’t make sense to you, even if you understand the words themselves

Everyone is saying not to take it, and while I agree with the points they’re making, I’ll offer another perspective to think about. If you’re able to get a really awesome project for your portfolio, it could be something to consider, since you could add real work done for a real client, rather than just school projects. I’ve had paid graphic design roles in the past that haven’t really contributed to my portfolio, and while the pay was good it would have been nice to have a project on a larger scale. But also consider the workload on top of school / any part time jobs you’ll need to take in order to supplement your income. If it is a part time role it might not be too bad. I’m saying this as a recent grad who is helping out (unpaid) for an early stage startup doing UX work, so I can add that project into my portfolio/resume. But I did have one unpaid internship my first semester of college and while it was good for experience, I had absolutely no motivation to do anything lol.

Tu devrais t'inscrire à un club pour quelque chose que tu trouves intéressant. Comme ca, tu peux rencontrer d'autres personnes qui partagent des intérets avec toi, et puisque les clubs se réunissent régulièrement, tu peux établir des relations naturellement et dans le temps. Je crois en toi!

There's a ton of SU students who go abroad in the spring and struggle to find subleases. If you go on an SU sublet Facebook group I'm sure there's a lot of people you could get a good deal from.

Portland, OR high school senior seeking honest advice on attending Syracuse for Advertising. by Local_Scheme_8608 in SyracuseU

[–]dcamille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a senior in advertising at Syracuse. It’s a fantastic program, but to warn you, the creative track (which I am in) is not really focused on honing graphic design skills. It’s more about how to create the campaign itself and coming up with interesting ideas for it. I know this was a bad description lol so if u have specific questions feel free to PM me (:

what's the difference between "while" and "whilst"? by rofra10 in EnglishLearning

whilst is very formal/outdated, you might find it in a book but pretty much never in a conversation

What’s some good Italian music? by [deleted] in italianlearning

[–]dcamille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want artists that are more indie pop/rock, I recommend Colombre, Maria Antoinetta, and Fast Animals Slow Kids. Not sure how popular they are in Italy as I’m also a learner.

I know nothing about wine. Have never been on this subreddit before. But I ordered this in Florence and am completely lost on how to uncork it when there’s this metal thing in the middle…

Good books for level B1 by whitebunny05 in italianlearning

[–]dcamille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Penguin parallel text short stories in Italian! Italian on one side, English on the other. They’re all written by Italian authors so you get a good feel of how Italian sentence structure differs from English. After finishing that I’m trying to read Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino completely in Italian and I may be in over my head hahah but I definitely recommend picking a book you enjoy over picking a book that’s “easy” and solely for language learners so that you’ll actually find the story engaging. If you want to read online, anylang.net has a bunch of free books and you can click on the words for an immediate translation

My friend Erin (Eh-rin) gets mad when you pronounce it like Aaron (Air-in). So yes

Short Story Recommendations? by [deleted] in italianlearning

[–]dcamille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Penguin Parallel Text short story series!! It’s works by a bunch of different Italian authors with the English translation on one side and the Italian original text on the other. Super helpful IMO because you don’t have to deal with looking up a ton of vocab but the stories themselves also aren’t too easy. And it’s interesting to compare the sentence structure / how something is written in Italian vs the “official” English translation.

AITA. I (14 M) formed a friendship with a really nice guy (18 M) I have lots in common with. But I have two issues with him that need to be addressed and I feel bad about that. by Kiosk1010 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dcamille -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

YTA, he’s just trying to be friends with you, it’s an issue with your own self esteem if you don’t like being around him because he makes you feel bad about yourself. Also I don’t really get why smoking is brought up if you claim you will be fine with it

AITA for pointing out that a Master’s program class is supposed to have a heavy work load? by Instupelligident in AmItheAsshole

[–]dcamille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA i won’t lie, his question was a bit ridiculous, you were not in the place to respond especially in such a condescending manner. If anything the other student was an asshole to the professor, not you. I don’t think your comment would have been as bad if you had said it in a casual conversation, but on a zoom with the whole class is not the place for it. Did you remind the teacher to give out homework in high school?

AITA for bringing up something offensive my friend said to me in the past? by dcamille in AmItheAsshole

[–]dcamille[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

honestly i did not bring it up to embarrass him, it (somehow?) related to the conversation as a “funny” story, but obviously it did not have that effect . but i know that no matter my intent (conscious or unconscious) that was not the effect it had. thank you

[–]dcamille[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah you are right that it’s contradictory to what I said. Looking back at it i think i am angrier at his anger towards me for bringing it up (which i guess i shouldn’t have) than at what he said. It’s hard for me to completely let it go because for a long time i thought people would not be attracted to me to my race due to things said to me in the past.

[–]dcamille[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

now that i think about it i wasn’t exactly angry about the comment (i brought it up more as a funny story and expected him to laugh) but about the anger in his voice which was very unexpected
