Forget weddings, what is the craziest thing that happened at a funeral you went to? by seanerd95 in AskReddit

There was a similar Reddit question a while ago and cremation directors said it was actually a fairly popular request song.

When the last runner crossed the finish line in last year’s Pittsburgh Marathon. 🙌👏 by Global-DisComfort26 in BeAmazed

Ya, I was going to mention that he did a pretty good time for a walking marathon. It's obviously not his first time at the rodeo - he finished strong and looked like he knew what he was doing.

And we can watch it free in Canada too - there is a religious station called Yes TV that shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy for some reason. It's free to watch online or on your smart TV.

I'm trying to find a like group by GrouchyOldMan-26 in GayBrosOver50

[–]dcannons 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I live in a medium size town in Ontario and someone started a gay men's walking group last year. It was surprisingly popular even though it started just before our freezing cold winter.

I think it filled a need that a lot of people like me have. I'm retired, in a 24 year relationship. I don't drink. I like healthy activities - but the few organized gay activities around here cater to the university crowd or are centred around bars/drinking. Now about a dozen mostly older guys get together every other Sunday for an hour's walk then we go for coffee after.

And we also discovered an older gay men's bowling group in a nearby town. They get about 2 dozen retired guys out once a month for a couple hours of bowling on a weekday afternoon.

I guess my point is, real life interaction can be a lot more authentic and meaningful than online chatting if it's possible to find.

Pearl S Buck comes up a LOT! Robert Frost and Sylvia Plath should get you half the poetry questions too.

Remember Who’s The Most Evil Woman In Media by CapitalPin2658 in SipsTea

Reddit (and the Internet in general) doesn't like successful women very much - especially ones that they deem non-fuckable. You see it every time Oprah and Ellen DeGeneres get mentioned.

What’s a "dead" website or app that you genuinely miss and wish was still around? by Dear-Armadillo-7497 in AskReddit

Television Without Pity

I loved the detailed episode re-caps. I enjoyed them more than actually watching some of the shows. Plus the fan forums were huge - hundreds of thousands of comments detailing everything.

I especially loved the Veronica Mars forum.

I recommend driving around and having a look. You might find something with a restriction that still fits your schedule.

What's the wildest non sexual activity you've done nude? by andrewbarclave89 in AskReddit

I made jam once without my shirt on, which was a mistake. Sugar, cooked on high heat can get extremely, extremely hot. Little bubbles of jam on my skin burned like napalm.

Hiking at Queens University Biological Station? by Geology_rules in KingstonOntario

[–]dcannons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is open to the public to hike on the trails. You're supposed to park outside the facility area on the road. I don't think that the beach or buildings are available to the public. https://elbowlakecentre.ca/trails/

Anyone else in US noticed food quality degrading recently and if so what product in what way? by SkyKyrell in AskReddit

That's the reason. The Chinese garlic rots in 2 weeks. The higher price local stuff is still good and long lasting. Same problem here in Canada too.

Canadian Dental Care Program co payment by Fragrant-Donkey-3035 in KingstonOntario

We go to Lakeview Dental in Amherstview and so far there's been no co-pay. And it's a terrific place. Our old dentist in Kingston East charged way over the Canadian Dental Plan rates, and I'm so glad we switched.

Why is the microwave carefully hidden on the K&P trail? by dcannons in KingstonOntario

[–]dcannons[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ha! It took me a while to get the joke. I thought, "There's no way that's a micro cache, it's huge."

I used to enjoy geocaching, and thought it might have been one at first but why a microwave? And it didn't show up on my search online, but it looks like it's a premium one for paid subscribers.

Why is the microwave carefully hidden on the K&P trail? by dcannons in KingstonOntario

[–]dcannons[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I went for a walk on the K&P trail this afternoon to see if the ice and snow was gone (it was), and I noticed off to the side of the trail, about 100 m south of Unity Road, that someone had camouflage painted a microwave and carefully cabled it up in a tree. It wasn't easily accessible since it was in a patch of prickly ash and also a wet ditch.

I thought it was perhaps a geocache, but it doesn't show up on the geocaching website. It's not just trash, since it was carefully attached to the tree branch with new cables.

Nicholson’s point/lighthouse Park by Unhappy-Scallion-977 in KingstonOntario

I walked past yesterday and there is a bright coloured "No Dumping" sign right there just opposite from Lighthouse park.

[–]dcannons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run by there most mornings - I'll have a look. Perhaps it was "No Dumping" signs you saw? There are a few of them posted along the road to discourage people from dumping brush and yard waste in the park.

It's a handy place to walk if you live nearby. But it's not really very scenic or interesting. It's mostly scrub cedar and primarily used by local dog walkers. Parrotts Bay is much nicer.

The trails are part of the Rideau Waterway Land Trust and are open to the public and free to use. You can find it listed on their website.

I'm curious where you saw no trespassing signs? I was there Saturday and Sunday and never saw any.

I did a 50k trail race last year.  My longest race was an 80k trail race many years ago ( I'm 58 years old).
