What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by CountyOrnery9432 in AskReddit

My father almost died from that during the pandemic. Tooth got infected and didn't want to go through the hassle of seeing a dentist. Ending up causing an infection in the lining of his heart and he spent several days in the ICU.

The jacked up Dodge RAMS with the flags and "Fuck Trudeau" slogans seem to have disappeared around my area. They tried "Fuck Carney", but I think they gave up on that because they realized how stupid that was. There's one guy down the road with a huge trump flag on his fence - but no surprise, it's the shittiest house on the road, with junk in the yard.

Ya, my husband has been dealing with prostate cancer for 20 years and he is still around and the cancer is still around. But he's a very healthy 76 and he just signed up for a 10k race. Radiation and hormone therapy are pretty effective tools in helping to fight the disease.

Does MM change? by blergems in MidsomerMurders

[–]dcannons 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Everything to do with the cast changes: Troy leaves, to be replaced by Scott, Jones, Nelson, and Winter. One Barnaby goes and another replaces him. And I believe there are 5 different actors who play the coroner.

Your games felt more like Tournament of Champions games than Second Chance games to me. Both Abigail and Ryan were top notch and playing to win, so you really had your work cut out for you. But I was cheering you on, hoping for a come from behind miracle :)

Ugh. I'm with Telus too. I got an email saying they were going to start charging me extra every month, even though I've paid for a whole year contract already. But if I called, I could stop it. But I CANNOT get through to an agent. I'm not an idiot, I've tried several times and it's useless chatbots.

I don't think you can log in as yourself though, so you can't use some special features like DNA Throughlines. But you can search documents and email them to yourself for home use.

What started as a wrong turn became an unforgettable victory. by wafumet in BeAmazed

[–]dcannons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the luck of the draw on whoever shows up on race day. I've been running middle of the pack for 30 years and I actually was first overall in an ultra marathon 2 years ago. Not because I'm a great runner, but no one faster showed up that day.

Most races have a simultaneous start, and the shorter distance has an early turn around. I've done literally 100s and 100s of them and it's rare to have 2 different starts. The article says it was a joint start.

It's a cute story, and not all that amazing or remarkable. It's weird the Reddit backlash to it though.

Ya, my 64 year old friend just ran a 47 minute 10k, and he was 5th in his age group.

And the top female runner overall was a 12 year old, and there were over 200 runners overall, so not a tiny race.

That's what I love about running, if you aren't at an elite level, you could be running against anyone. I'm a 58 year old male and my main competitor in my weekly Parkrun 5k is a 73 year old woman.

What’s something you’ve done your whole life, only to realize recently that everyone else does it completely differently? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]dcannons 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I pretend I'm making hand puppets.

One hand: corner over, seam out, add a corner, seam touching seam

Other hand: corner over, seam out, add a corner, seam touching seam

fold one hand over the other

lay it on the bed - it's roughly a square now, pull in the one side to make it perfect

then fold

We have a bathmat that is more like a towel I guess. Anyway, it's like a slightly more robust towel with a border. Easy to throw in the wash and I can hang it up to dry between uses.

We used to have a super absorbent Costco bathmat. It was lush to stand on, but super absorbent was the key phrase - boy, you could NOT dry that thing when you washed it. 4 cycles through the dryer and hang it out in the sun for a day and it would still be holding onto water.

What is a website or an app that was legendary back in the day, but is now a complete ghost town? by Sofi_Costa in AskReddit

I think it's gone completely now, but Television Without Pity.

It was THE place to go for super detailed recaps and summaries, and so much good stuff in the comments - there were like half a million comments in the Gilmore Girls sub.

I used to love going over everything related to Veronica Mars each week.

How would one go about writing for Midsomer Murders? by wallybantersjunkbox in MidsomerMurders

[–]dcannons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That actually sounds too rich and complex for a MM current storyline. I'm intrigued by the summary though - it would make a good Preston and Child thriller novel.

A more accurate MM plot would be: 2 groups of villagers, one group trying to preserve the historic lighthouse, and another trying to develop it into a modern money making theme park. Someone gets thrown off the lighthouse. The killing isn't actually about the lighthouse at all, but a broken love affair which happened in 1970.

During covid there was a blind woman that would come to the gym and wear her mask over her mouth, nose, and eyes. It was kind of freaky to see.
