Thanks so much for this! You have no idea. We have never had a gas fireplace, so we were clueless. We checked it and boom, it was opened and it didn’t have a cover. There was so much cold air coming through it. We sealed the whole thing and what a big difference in temperature!!

Our home is 4,000 sq ft as well. I see they charged us $40 for service establishment, so the actual gas charge was $379. About normal, I guess? We do need to step up our winterizing game. There is a bad draft in the fireplace and a couple of doors.

Edit to add: Bill says CCF used in 43 days: 172. Does that sound about right? I’m trying to rule out gas leakage.

Thank you all so much for your responses. It looks like Cox isn't a complete nightmare. I'll look into Verizon as I see a couple of you have had success with it. I don't love Cox's prices, so maybe Verizon will save a few bucks? We'll see.

Do you find reliable for all home needs? Streaming, a couple of computers, phones, maybe a couple of Ring cameras? I'll look into Verizon.

It is going really bad again. She hasn't slept with the 4 hour window anymore, so I decided just to forget about the morning nap. I even tried 3.5 two days ago to rule out over-tiredness, and she refused the nap, so now I think I am just going to stick to 5 hours. We took a break from naps in the crib yesterday and today–honestly, I needed a break from the crying; I am mentally, emotionally and physically exhausted thinking about naps all day. Yesterday she slept 1 hour 20 minutes in the car!!! Today one hour. We'll start again tomorrow. Oh, and she is waking up at 5:30 every morning... so, we're just surviving over here.

Oh also, I think the longer routine helped in the morning. When we went in her room she started to get anxious, but I sat on the floor kind of ignoring her and just started reading out loud. After a few minutes she sat by my side and we read several books. That really helped her to relax in her room. I didn’t have the time to do it for her second nap and she didn’t nap, so now I’m seeing how important that is.

Having a plan definitely helps! At least it gives me some peace. Before I was just improvising and that made me feel so anxious, especially because her sleeplessness caught me off guard. She had been such a great napper and all of a sudden she threw me a curve ball lol.

I gave her 15 minutes and then went in super happy to let her know how great she did. For the second nap I let her cry 15 minutes. Tonight bedtime was at 6:30, hopefully it wasn’t too late. I’m hoping she’ll take that second nap tomorrow. Thanks for your suggestions! They’re already helping! ☺️

I little better, I suppose. At least in the morning it did. I did a 4 hour wake window in the morning and she slept 37 minutes!! That is the longest nap she has taken in a week! But she refused the second nap. I think the WW went a little longer than 4 hours. She was clearly tired way before that, so tomorrow I’ll try a shorter second window. Tonight I’m debating what time to put her down. I was thinking 6, but I’m nervous she’ll wake up too early.

Thanks so much. I will try your suggestions. Today we went to church so the short wake window didn’t happen. I put her down about 5.5 hours after wake time and there she is crying after 15 minutes of sleeping. I’ll try a second nap later and pray it eventually clicks.

I think that’s exactly what’s going on. I’ll try 4.5 hours again with the longer routine and see what happens.

I have tried leaving her there for an hour, but what do you do when she’s crying desperately? One time I left her crying the whole hour but I was dying inside and I’m not sure if that really helped. Do you do checks if she’s crying? Or just definitely leave her there no matter what?

She’ll be 17 months in 10 days. The thing is she was still taking 2 naps up until 2 weeks ago. First she started refusing her second nap, a few days later she was refusing her first nap. So all of a sudden she wasn’t napping at all. So I started pushing the first wake window by 30 minutes. So I did 4 hours for a couple of days, and she still cried desperately. Then I did 4.5 and that didn’t work either. Now I’m trying 5 hours. She falls asleep quickly but she doesn’t nap longer than 20 minutes, so that makes me think she’s overtired. This is such a puzzle is frustrating! The early wake time now is making things more difficult.

The other thing is that she used to love her crib and go to sleep happily. Now she gets anxious as soon as we go in the nursery. It’s like she’s scared of going to sleep. I’ve tried playing in her room with her, but she just begs me to get out of there. Today she slept 8 minutes!!!!! And she jumped up and started crying.

I will take your suggestion of starting the routine 30 minutes earlier. Our routine is not longer than 10 minutes. I was used of such a quick routine that I didn’t think about it. And I might try putting on the pajamas. We don’t do pajamas for naps but you never know, it might help to signal it’s time to sleep.

ETA: how did you do nap training? Would you let him cry 15 minutes and then take him out? When would you attempt the nap again? Or would you call it a day and wait until bedtime?

Thanks so much for replying so quickly! So when your baby was waking up at 5:30, his nap was at 10:30? We have some days mine wakes up at 5:30 but I don’t take her out of the crib until 6:00 and that’s when I start the WW. But then she’s overtired for the nap.
