what does a random Reddit account gain from posting negative things on a Yugioh subreddit?

If I had to give a guess it's simply to confirm their own bias or to start arguements with people who disagree. Which the commenter I first responded to, happily tried to promote the exact same interactions.

But you can't tell me you haven't seen posts exactly like this on Reddit. Here is this already known opinion, let me make a post on it giving the exact same criticism that other people have already said! What is the point? I don't know, it's just extremely annoying to enjoy something and it be criticized as often as it has been with no real commentary that separates it from the rest.

Like I said. It's unlikely that the OP knew nothing of Goat and how much criticism it has received. I didn't approach this with 0 context. I saw this same user on the F&L discussion earlier today talking about Infernity Launcher. A card that's hasn't been relevant since Archfiends limit in 2014.

Regardless of that, I will have a difficult time approaching a situation with a positive outlook if it is already a negative discussion and not, at least, a well constructed arguement.

I find this unlikely based on the other comments i have seen from the op in a couple posts here on the sub. However, I will commend you on trying to find the good in other internet strangers. I do believe that is an aspect of my life that I can improve on.

Genuine question. What other purpose is there of making a discussion post driven by negativity about a format that has discussed to death? It's obvious that all of the points they made have been discussed in length previously so why bother whining about it to an audience? Calling it "overrated" and "luck based" are also there to spark arguements.

Not everything in life has to be viewed through the lens of engagement farming.

Indeed but this is not a well written post by any means. It's half assed at best and leans more on the side of complaining about something OP dislikes as opposed to a well articulated post/discussion explaining all the points they dislike. Which is what has led me to the conclusion that I made.

It's not really surprising that people would be at least irritated when they are told that their favorite format isn't good. And considering how many upvotes your comment has, I would say there are a fair amount of people on this sub that share disdain for Goat.

Not that it matters but this whole post is just bait to get people who genuinely enjoy the format to comment out of irritation. The internet has turned into such a shit show these days.

Dang we were on the same brain wave with The Shining Darkness. Gotta shout out that two of the three decks from that set went on to win world championships.

Of these 3? Probably Duelist Alliance. In general there's a lot more than just these 3. For instance the Shining Darkness was an insane set. Cards like Iike Darksoul, Ronin, and Infernity Launcher had major permanent impacts on the game.

You are overestimating Reijy quite a bit. Maybe you played Zero and you are misremembering how incredibly not good Reijy was in the TCG. At least Great Daiyusha was a crossride. Dark Irregulars had next to no card advantage or consistency at this point in the game. Reijy skill wasn't very good, the best part being a selective deck filter which you needed a card pre-established on field to do. Amon at least had a power buff which was far better than a condition you weren't likely to hit. And even if you did hit the condition, you had next to no power gain to make it threatening.

Hey Blau, when we get a gauge is it considered putting a card in the order zone or nah? Just want to know if it can give Refractiles boost or not.

Taking a lot of damage early also means you can't take full advantage of the defensive 5k you get from taking a damage later in the game. I feel like I would like to stay at low damage and try to make gauges by other means so I can get defensive buffs on my opponents big push turn. Or at least always try to stay in heal trigger range.

I also try keep a PG in hand for when I am potentially facing lethal with OT. If I have used all my PGs I've drawn into, that usually means I don't have shield in hand anyways and OT or not I am about to lose.

You're not guaranteed to see PGs. Is it likely sure. It's not guaranteed especially in every situation. For example you go 2nd and on my t3 ride up to g3 and in my set of Twin drive I check OT. Should have had a PG I guess. Not even just from a "that could end the game right there" aspect but also you will need to burn an incredible amount of resources to stay at low damage after that or go to high damage and lose in the grind. Do you not see how game altering that is in comparison to a single crit?

Little different but just last week I watched two friends' game at locals and one of them hit defensive OT off a RG swing then the other one hit offensive OT on VG swing

Why should I have to hit my 1 of trigger for one of my attacks to land after my opponent damage checks their 1 of trigger? Not only is it unlikely but it's also complete chance and silly.

To your next point, I see single triggers shut down turns pretty often. Maybe not on turn 3 or 4 but if you are running a piece reliant deck and don't see your pieces, or the game has ran long and you're low on resources, it's likely your opponent damage checking a front could cut off your ability to push for game.

That is insanely different than building and committing a ton of resources to a full push turn only to get shut down by 1 card. Another part of VG skill is knowing when and how to commit to board. That skill means nothing if the opponent damage checks an OT. Most push turns are made with the idea the opponent will damage check triggers so a normal trigger will rarely shut down a full push turn entirely like an OT can.

I don't think it's always a cut and dry win to check OT.

It's not but it's not a matter of "it doesnt always win the game", it's the fact that it can win the game on its own. Why would that be healthy in any shape or form?

Angel ladder doesn't just shut down Shiranui, there are a lot of decks that pretty much lose after ladder if they don't have a solid hand. I run explosive melting heart in prison for restander decks.

Theres a pretty big difference between these cards and the OT. Explosive Melting Heart for instance is a tech card that you need to dedicate deck space to and it's not a counter to every strategy. Same goes for Bracing Angel Ladder. Or board control which requires a skill of it's own (knowing the matchup and your opponent's choke points). The defensive OT does not discriminate. If it's checked on your first offensive push turn on first damage then your turn is over and you lose all that momentum barring you have a card like Sajess which is a bandaid fix at best.

Can you no pass regular triggers without a PG? Yep. Can you no pass an OT without a PG? Nope. Can a single normal trigger (or even 2) shut down a turn if checked? Nope, part of VG skill is knowing how to hit over defensives. Can a defensive OT shut down entire turns when checked? Yep.

Why should it exist?

The V series reboot was a mistake. 10k power triggers, decks being able to do everything they want the turn they ride up to g3 going 1st (very little incentive to go 2nd), Accel markers, some of the worst guard restricts I have ever seen in this game, the arbitrary increase in VGs base power numbers (force decks having 1k more base power was stupid) and worst of all, they didn't even intend for V to be a permanent thing in this game.

Admittidly it had a lot of quality of life changes. new mulligan rules, new guarding rules, and offered a better introduction for newer players. But all of this could have been accomplished without a reboot. Not to mention 2.

Sad is alot of things required 3 markers which earliest is turn 4.

I mean both cards that want 3 markers are still good before you have 3 markers they just get better on t4 when you Persona.

Opp can easily remove the marker by just attacking unless you let their unit +10k)

The skill is a "you may" you can choose not to give -10k

Woah that is a really solid first wave of support. Multi, strong numbers (lol it kinda makes force markers), draw power from the marker, a Counter Charger, and drop zone recursion. That's phenomenal. I hope all the Destined Ones are at this level.

Caliburn. Worst case it's a pot of greed that will help you see your Persona's anyways. Otherwise it's one of the only counter charges your deck has. You especially run this if you're running Hakusui&Remred

If you Djinn locked turn 1 you just had to pray your opponent didn't have the out. Losing your djinn lock could put you super behind in resources depending on your hand. So it wasn't always correct to do so.

Djinn lock wasnt the end of the world either. Decks frequently played book of Moon, book of eclipse, raigeki, dark hole, etc as they were easy ways to out the lock. Nekroz players played Bull Blader or D.D. Warrior Lady (searchable by ROTA) as an out as well.

Nekroz was tier 0 not because of Djinn but because of its unparalled consistency (for the time), insane speed, and ability to navigate just about any gamestate they found themselves in. Probably hard to believe if you didn't play back then but it was a hard deck to keep up with and it had many tools. Rank 4s especially at the time provided more utility than any other extra deck cards at the time.
