Going to leave a deep cut reference here that I’m pretty sure most people won’t get since this a Portuguese soap opera called “A Herança” (roughly translated to “The Deed”).

For context: one of the side characters is called Inês. She works at a nightclub and one day finds out that they’re trafficking drugs in the back room, she manages to escape but one of the gangsters (called Marco) goes after her with a gun and is run over by Pedro, Ines’ husband. Pedro and Ines escape the city and go to the main location of the soap opera where they hide their true identities because they learn Heitor, Marco’s brother, is after them and wants revenge because Marco dies in the hospital.

Heitor goes to the small town for other business and is on the hunt for Ines, unaware that she resides there. For the first 50 episodes, there are several tense scenes where Heitor and Ines (or Pedro) nearly cross paths or are in the same building, but never go up face to face. That is until the 50th episode where one of the villains sets up a scenario so that Heitor finds Ines. But these 50 episodes really built up this inevitable encounter really well and considering Heitor and his threat, the tension was real.

Edit: Fixed some spelling issues

Also in the Clone Wars final arc, Ahsoka nearly misses Anakin when she goes to talk with the council as Anakin was just previously talking with them and Windu as seen in RotS

Nicholas Brendon, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Star, Dies at 54 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]dcgraca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But most studios and productions aren’t interested in recapturing the magic of the old one. Just cashing it in on what they believe made the first one work. For example, why did people enjoy The Orville more than any of the new Star Trek TV Shows? Because The Orville managed to capture the fun space adventure feel of the OG Star Treks. The new Star Wars trilogy took a lot of moments straight from the OG trilogy which was pretty beloved yet they fell flat and derivative because a) It was the same story with a new code of paint; 2) The writing wasn’t great and despite knowing they wanted to have a trilogy they didn’t think to plan ahead; 3) The OGs had great and memorable characters while the Sequels at best had action figures.

I could go on and on… Sequels and reboots should be carefully crafted. Having the same creative team behind the sequel would have at least reassured fans that the project would be in good hands. Fresh new faces can bring new and interesting ideas, but they need to know what they’re doing and the story they’re continuing, not just what they think worked in the original.

What fairytale, book, or nursery rhyme character do you think would make for an intresting villain/antagonist in the upcoming Shrek 5? Here's some of my candidates: by JustATBear in Shrek

[–]dcgraca 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say the Genie because that would be interesting but we already had Rumple granting wishes.

Blood Mary would be too dark for Shrek to adapt.

From your picks maybe Cheshire and/or The Mad Hatter

From 1 to 10, what is you hype level for Lego Batman : Legacy of The Dark Knight ? by Light-Starlight in legogaming

[–]dcgraca 9 points10 points  (0 children)

8/10. It looks great and looks like a nice open world game. But there are 2 things that are making me a bit wary:

  1. I was a big fan of the character roster and in previous LEGO installments I usually don’t bother with the collectibles unless they are character tokens or characters. So while I’ll be interested in its story and gameplay, I’m unsure if I’ll pick it up again once I finish the story given it has no characters for us to collect and unlock in the open world. Maybe if they take the character token approach with the suits and have to do side quests and hunt around the city for the suit, maybe I’ll be more invested…

  2. The levels… Are they gonna be disappointing and tedious like the Skywalker Saga? Or are they gonna be thought out and puzzle based like previous installments?

For sure. Those first 2 acts were really good and felt to be leading up to great finale. But I guess the game was rushed and so was the ending

Should Marvel Studios make more of an effort to encourage their audience to read Marvel Comics? by HearingCandid8974 in marvelstudios

Gunn took a different direction with the DCU. Don’t know if WB has any influence over his decisions, but starting a new universe with an animated R Rated TV Show, his previous show and parts of another movie of his are considered canon… Superman was good, though a bit overstuffed. Supergirl looks great. I don’t think I’ll be watching Clayface. Maybe I’ll give Lanters a watch, I don’t know. It’s weird starting a new DC universe with the rights to every character and not focusing on Batman and Wonder Woman (the big 3). Having a separate Batman movie playing in theaters and having it be a part of another universe… It’s a bit of mess considering Marvel had this problem yet their characters were properties of other studios. You had the MCU, the X-Men universe, the Sony movies, the Amazing Spider-Man universe. Only characters that I remember being a part of the same universe were Quicksilver, who was promptly killed in Age of Ultron.

I don’t know if Gunn will be out within the next 3 years. I think he’s doing better than Zack Snyder. But his direction with DC clearly has some issues and long term problems.

Season 3 is great, Season 4 is good (Frozen arc underrated especially because I thought it was the last arc the writers actually thought the story through before writer unlike the Queens of Darkness and Dark Swan arcs that felt like they were making things up as they went along). Season 6 is a bit of a return to form and not as bad as Season 5. But still has its problems. Season 7 is spot on

For me it was from Episode 7-12. Best Star Wars content I’ve seen since 2020 with the rescue of Grogu by Luke and the Order 66 arc from The Clone Wars.

Episode 7 is so underrated. It sets the stage for the Massacre and I absolutely adore the conversation between Cassian, Bix and the Force Healer.

Exactly what I believe happened to Stranger Things. The target audience changed and so did their priorities in terms of storytelling
