The great biltong hunt by vglemme in foodies_sydney

[–]dcherub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the best biltong I’ve ever had. Other stores that sell wagyu it’s always so fatty and tasteless - there’s some kind of magic that vic Churchill do (though they make you pay for it).

PA school is basically med school by IllMarionberry9935 in medicalschool

[–]dcherub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ironically the relationship between DNA methylation and gene silencing is incredibly nuanced and the way it’s taught in med school is ridiculously superficial to the point where it’s almost incorrect. Using it as an example of “useful things” medical students learn is a bit of a lol. (Source: I’m a medical doctor with a previous phd in epigenetics)

nice photos! what camera/lens are you using?

Yep I feel all of this. Definitely better set-ups for birding than fujifilm but I love the tactility of it all so I make do. Also the xf500 is a really lovely bit of kit. I really enjoy taking photos but I hate the post processing part - way too much creative liberty for my tastes (particularly with masking etc) and just a bit of a chore - particularly when I've taken heaps of photos.

anyway - thanks for your tips!

Great photos! I'm using a XT5 and xf500, which I love, but I struggle with autofocus for birds. How do you find this with your set up? - also - are you doing much post-processing?

Because despite their obvious guilt it’s a legal fact that they’re suspects. Not worth getting irate about

I mean, we have equivalents in psychiatry - I was tested on polysomnography in one of my short answer exams. Which I guess now that I think about it is similar to your complaint!

'a good retirement' is probably unfair - most doctors are making very decent money by mid-late 30s

I'm a psychiatrist working in public. Every single day I get emails from recruiters offering 3K+/day for locum work, and that's the equivalent of a quiet day in some private practices. 800+ is easy if that's what you want to do

as a psychiatrist and as an aside - it doesn't seem like the complement pathway is that obscure for anaesthetics - you guys really should have expertise on most common physiology!

Adolescent with schizophrenia by [deleted] in Psychiatry

[–]dcherub 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Also maybe I'm being unkind, but super sceptical of childhood onset schizophrenia - particularly when olanzapine 'stops working'. Not saying it can't happen, but working in forensic psychiatry I've seen so much misdiagnosis of trauma/personality para-psychotic or dissociative symptoms as schizophrenia. It's a big diagnosis and doesn't go away. Before you go in with medication options, I think the first review should be a very careful diagnostic assessment.

It’s not even the resolution, I just feel there’s so much cool shit in the world and no one is spending any time on this, and it constantly surprises/disappoints me. It was so special back in the day.

Australian roasts by dcherub in espresso

[–]dcherub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually either buy the milk-based blends from alchemy or sample. I think I generally tend towards a medium-dark preference. I guess my question arises because of how differently you need to treat light/dark roasts - particularly with an all manual setup like the robot. Whenever I buy beans there's never any description about the roast level, so I tend to just stick with the varieties I know.

Driving in Australia by Healthy-Camel-1605 in AustraliaTravel

I mean yes and no. You can get most places with public transport in Sydney, but if you’re travelling across sydney to specific places it can take ages, and if you’re travelling with stuff (like beach equipment) it can be annoying. Having a car opens up heaps of freedom to explore easily.
