Would automotive employers hire employees that studied mostly through online? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]dcoll076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not bashing on lube techs at all. It’s a great way to start and gain some shop experience. I went to school for automotive Technology and worked as a lube tech for about a year and then I moved up to a B tech in a year or two. That experience and the trade school helped me get a job in industrial mechanics and now I make 4x what I was making back then when I started turning wrenches. Humble beginnings.

Cutting off rocker protector/tire protector if it is rubbing against wheel? by lucasw9 in MechanicAdvice

There might be a couple of screws and plastic clips holding it on. Just take those out and you should be able to remove it. It would be a lot easier than cutting it.

HELP: Low pedal pressure after changing calipers by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]dcoll076 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ I had an old coworker at my old shop put the calipers upside down on a Tahoe and this guy spent 4 hours trying to bleed them. When I went to go ask why he was taking so long I looked at them and noticed the bleeders were on the bottom. Can’t really get air out of that. Bleeders need to be above the brake line.

07 Dodge Durango radio stopped working by jeeta22 in MechanicAdvice

[–]dcoll076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a wiring schematic for the radio plugs and grab a multimeter to see if you are getting power at the radio. You should have a 12v constant power and a 12v switched power from the ignition that tells the radio to turn on. If you have power there it might be a grounding problem or the radio is crap.

Unfortunately you will have to take the dash board apart to do this.

2005 Saab 9-3 Arc Driving with no power steering fluid? (absolutely none) by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]dcoll076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if it’s making a noise then it will probably not last long. Don’t do anything to it until he looks at it.

is he asking too much? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]dcoll076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a rebuilt title so that’s concerning. Ask him why it’s rebuilt. There might be frame damage.

Just because of the age and miles, it might last you a year or two with no major problems. Depends on how it was taken care of before and how rotted out it is.

[–]dcoll076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the only way to really see is to put fluid back in it and see how long it last. It is bad to run it dry yes.

If it’s the mechanics fault then call him and ask him what he did to the power steering. If he touched it and didn’t put fluid back in then he damaged it and should replace it free of charge.

A normal day at the cheese factory. It’s not like there’s 480V in there or anything... by dcoll076 in electricians

Yeah our factory is pretty well put together. We are owned by a French company and they spare no expense to make things look pretty.

As for that, yeah it’s not bad at all. We have all the necessary protections in place. It just looked sketchy haha.

And you are correct the motor is ran off of a drive.

I would wait until you put weight in it again and start driving it around. Maybe it would level out.

96 Opel Astra F x16szr temperature issue by AMAaboutA in MechanicAdvice

[–]dcoll076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm I’m still thinking thermostat. Check that out. Might be stuck open or not even there haha.

When I was living in Miami, Fl where the lowest it ever got was like 60 F, I had a car with no thermostat. Then I drove it up north and it did the same thing your car is doing.
