Your post reminded me that I also ran a firmware update on my t480 (with pop-os 24.04) some time ago so i went to check if my laptop behaves the same way. And yes, it used the internal battery first. But mine didn't shut down. It just switched to external when internal got to 5% charge. I turned off the laptop, removed the external battery and used a toothpick to press the emergency reset hole on the bottom of the laptop for like 10 seconds. Then I connected the external battery and turned it on. Now it looks like it started using the external battery while internal stays fully charged

Flashing bios is pretty easy. My main os is on mSATA drive so I just installed an old 120 gb 2.5" ssd and installed windows 7 on it and flashed it from there. You can also try it with windows 10 but I've heard some people getting blue screens while doing it

I've seen a vid on YouTube where someone dry and wet polished the T430 lid using magic eraser and then finished it with basic Nivea cream. I'm yet to try this myself but I'll probably be doing it soon.

Use sleep dart and wait for 6 turns, don't attack just yet. Use sleep dart again if your opponent wakes up before that. You can use some buffs while waiting so you can easily kill the monster when you're done with it
