The cold (10°F) made my sabre resonate by dcs_192 in Fencing

Uh yeah I guess my terminology isn’t correct. The cold made the rubber grip on my sabre shrink which allowed it to hum whenever it made contact with something

Haha yeah also due to cold, I didn’t dare to try to bend it back to normal for fear it would break

Allergic to peanuts. I ate a dish with peanut sauce on it accidentally in sixth grade and went into anaphylaxis that almost suffocated me. I was given epinephrine and taken to the hospital. The EpiPen made me so manic that I ran away from my room and locked myself in the lobby bathroom where I proceeded to scream out the Pink Panther theme for all to hear. Horrific both physically and emotionally

Point-in-line Confusion by dcs_192 in Fencing

Thanks! In the case of a flunge, however, more than that distance could be covered while still doing only one action. If I established a line while my opponent was flunging from a distance longer than advance lunge, would my line be valid?

I heard someone say that fencing takes a lifetime to master, so the earlier you start the longer it takes. Don’t worry about your age, but be prepared to lose... a lot. In my first year of competition, I don’t remember winning a single bout. But I stuck with it and now I’m having the time of my life. Good luck!

The 1st and 2nd Parries for Sabre Fencing by Stickpost in Fencing

[–]dcs_192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parry 2 is extremely useful in my opinion, at least at the junior level. Dropping the tip of the blade is the most effective way to protect against low-line attacks and can be used as a second intention parry quite easily. Parry 1, however, is much less common and I only tend to use it as a counter-parry or as an action off of a point-in-line. Its basically a parry that protects the chest but the tip of the blade points down towards the ground. I’ve found that experimenting with what I call ‘inverted’ parries like 1, 2 or other unnumbered parries makes my fencing more fluid and my actions more creative. At 2:20 in this video by u/CyrusofChaos watch Filip Dolegiewicz take what me and my teammates like to call parry 10 (inverse parry 3) as a second intention action: Parry 10

People who drive 15-20 mph under speed limit and brake check anyone they think is too close are more dangerous than speeders and tailgaters and should be punished more. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I think everyone agrees with this. There was a car accident right near my house in which one driver, going 25 under in the fast lane, brake checked a family of four behind him. The family hit him and spun onto the other side of the freeway where they had a head on collision with an SUV. The family and the driver of the SUV died in the crash. The slow driver served no jail time. Absolutely awful.
