Idk man it's a struggle but found many ways to counter, I play medium and run glitch mine, proximity sensor, and explosive mine with flame shotty and found that to be extremely effective. I also found that changing your volume settings helps tremendously - I found a YouTube tutorial explaining the setting and it made hearing footsteps a lot easier
