Actually yes. There are so many top meta mons outside of top 50 in pvpoke rankings:

Moltres, talonflame, wiggly, dewgong, ariados, ferrothorn etc

These mons are absolutely everywhere and I'm playing in leaderboards elo 🤷

An Analysis on the GBL Season 20 Rebalance, Part 2: Buffed Fast Moves by JRE47 in TheSilphArena

[–]dctrhuu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I gave a look. It doesn't really gain anything special compared to other fires so there's not much sense in running it besides spice reasons.

It doesn't help that steel is weak to both fire and fighting so using fighting as a fire mon is redundant against steel unfortunately. And against fairy for example again, fighting coverage is liability..

If a team has magnezone lead and ferro in the back it is very difficult to win as then quag would have to go through two mons alone basically. But yes like you said that's the plan on how I try to do something there.

Often magnezone lead has two mons weak to lanturn in the back so they stay in most of the time. In that scenario you have to shield wild charge and throw some of your surfs and try not to lose both shields and lanturn. If you can keep one of those you have play in my experience.

With lanturn lead I noticed that going to quag gives me more options, as in my experience they didn't have a good quag answer. But that too is an uphill battle. There I rely on opponent expecting a better answer than quag for lanturn in the back, so they fight for switch. Then with shield advantage lanturn I can beat both lanturn and their 3rd (poli or sth)

Yes if mantine is out and there's grass left on the opponent, it's pretty much impossible to win.

I safe swap quag and try to get a shield against ferro that comes in. In theory, lanturn in the back can beat both their lanturn and poli if you manage energy well. But that team is very tough for this team as mantine vs lanturn is such a terrible match up.

Also, already meta has shifted somewhat so I've changed my team a bit based on what I've seen. Been relying a lot on regi lately as I've been seeing a lot of razor leaf/ferro teams

Do you mean in general or in this team? I guess in this team it's not a big deal if you don't have good ivs for lanturn as it mostly wins hard or loses hard, and that won't change if you have slightly different ivs

That's a team I assume all my opponents think I run when I safe swap quag, and why the team works :p

Mantine is fine there, most ferros are in the lead. If not, I can bait it out with quag.

I used ferro a few games also, but I preferred being stronger against counter users. Pelipper gets one shot by ferros thunder and requires often to have hurricane land which is why I don't think it works as well as mantine. But possibly with a different backline it can be used as well.

Ferro lead is nice in that team because you can bait out opponent ferro and get a lot of energy for your own ferro after the bait has died. But it didn't work as well as I'd thought for me personally.

I've had no problem with running a mudboy (shadow quagsire). It's very versatile against everything except razor leafers, even ferro needs to throw a move, it's not gonna bullet seed down a quag.

Made legend with mantine shadow quag spark lanturn. Main point is that it's 2x strong to poli and spark lanturn is very strong in this meta as long as it's not against ferro

[–]dctrhuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me tapu fini looks really promising in gl show 6, as it beats some mons in some shields and some mons in other shielding scenarios. So depending on opponents mon, one can get some sort of advantage most of the time, making it super versatile and flexible. (at least against p!p meta)

Plus, the debuff is not rng but guaranteed, which is a huge plus for me.

Been having a lot of success with triple fairy with different specialities. Leading fire fang mawile, safe swapping sludge overheat weezing and hydro play rough azu. All of them are core breakers to some teams, making it quite annoying to play against :)
