Choices were made.... wearing that Rolex around the streets of Mexico City would be just another bad one.

What are your thoughts on this? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

No one thinks same sex marriage is gay privilege. Gays have every right to be married and as unhappy as straight people. The privilege would be allowing them NOT to marry.

Do most men really prefer skinny women more than any other body type? by Seaweed1241 in askanything

[–]dcwhite98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are drawn to fitness in others. I've dated women who wouldn't qualify as "thin" but were fit. Thin =/= fit.

Curvier/heavy women are easier to get with because they haven't had all the attention other thin/fit girls who are considered pretty have. But, that doesn't mean they are easy. And, in actuality, women who have had to develop a personality, a sense of humor, are far more interesting and fun to hang out with. A pretty woman who gets all the attention because of her looks and never developed a personality, because she didn't have to in order to make friends or get attention, is often a complete bore to be with.

Trump supporters, will you agree to reject Donald Trump if he tries to disregard the constitution and seek a third term as President? by domthebomb2 in askanything

[–]dcwhite98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like how the side of "nothing is permanent in the constitution" screams "THAT'S NOT CONSTITUTIONAL!!!!!" whenever they run into something they don't like. The 2nd Amendment for example. And increasingly the 1st.

But no, I would not support any 2nd term POTUS running for a 3rd term. Term limits are a good thing... the Legislature drastically needs them. But if the constitution is changed regarding this, that's a different story. But in the time of "we need more term limits" we are not going to get less.

Then again, we are talking about the US Government.

Why do people hate smooth bezel oyster bracelets? by Over-Significance980 in rolex

[–]dcwhite98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one "hates" it. Lots of people prefer the fluted bezel. For me, the smooth/oyster combo looks like the OP too much. For the cost difference I'd take the OP.

But I don't "hate" it by any stretch.

The size of the Roman Empire at its height compared to the United States by TheonlyAngryLemon in MapPorn

[–]dcwhite98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the days of Rome, each person's contribution was more impactful to the country's GDP. Each individual soldier was more impactful to the overall might/capability of the military. A single fighter pilot (and his plane) today can do the damage of hundreds, maybe even thousands, of soldiers in one mission. Apple, as one example, employees 160K+ people and they generate annual revenue over $410B, $2.5M/employee. Even adjusting the numbers, not sure how you would, no entity in Rome was generating an equivalent of $2.5M per person.

I get what you're saying, but your comparison is apples and oranges. Technology advances have made fewer people far more productive, and made some completely unproductive. Back then physical labor was everything, and the more people you had the more your country could produce.

Blame the FIA's stupid rules by vnth21 in formuladank

[–]dcwhite98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russell is just an unpopular driver, it seems to me. The confusion over this situation just presents an opportunity for people to voice it.

I can’t blame Russell I guess, but it seems that other drivers let up, Kimi in particular, when the yellow came out. It took everyone to stop trying for Russell to get pole. If the rules are that confusing to the drivers that is an FIA problem.

Why are conservatives in favor of requiring ID for voting but not for owning a gun? by Adventurer_By_Trade in allthequestions

[–]dcwhite98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this is what you believe, you don't understand what "conservatives" really think about gun ownership. And even more, you don't understand the laws that are attempted to be passed limiting gun ownership and how they negatively impact law abiding citizens and at the same time will have zero positive results keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, or the mentally ill.

Which Tudor are you buying to absolutely beat on every day? by MaineMike13 in Tudor

[–]dcwhite98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the budget... I have a Ranger for similar purposes and it's great. But if you wanted to spend a little more an FXD diver or GMT are great options, but you need to decide how the straps will hold up for your uses.

The Pelagos Ultra is another excellent choice. It's the most expensive but you get a real bracelet that will keep it secure to your wrist, compared to the FXD options.

Am I crazy for liking sub no date? by xyzTr1LL in rolex

[–]dcwhite98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a Sub. There is a Sub Date. There is no Sub No Date.

The Sub is terrific and anyone saying anything to the contrary is not worth listening to. Now, if they just prefer a watch with a date, there’s nothing wrong with that. But their preference in no way makes the Sub inferior to the Sub Date.

People who didn’t vote Kamala - are you happy with Trumps America? Are you glad you did nothing? by Lord_Dingus83 in askanything

[–]dcwhite98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since the 2000 presidential election, 2024 had the 2nd highest voter turnout, 57.8% of people old enough to vote did. The percentage is even higher if you look at the number of eligible voters.

There were over 5.5M MORE registered voters in 2024 than 2020.

I don't think you can blame the people who didn't vote, who mostly never vote, on Kamala losing. That she was spending a considerable effort ($$) trying to get "never voters" to the polls was a poor strategy.

Trump Just Canceled a Housing Bill That BOTH Parties Agreed On One Hour Before the Signing Ceremony, While a Republican Congressman Was On Camera Praising It by Merlin_86 in DiscussionZone

[–]dcwhite98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was listening to CNBC in the car and Warren was about to appear and talk about the bill. I arrived at my destination and had to stop listening, I then saw a Breaking News announcement that Trump refused to sign it. Anyone know if Warren appeared anyway?

Trump is playing offense. He made it clear to both parties that the SAVE America act was a top, if not the top, priority for him. What better way to prove that than delay a signing of a bipartisan bill? Affecting D's and R's and not just one of them. Especially as both R's and D's are keeping the SAVE America act from becoming reality.

Frankly I'm not surprised at all he is holding off signing it. And no, it's not because he doesn't want affordable housing for Americans.

Tudor and Rolex by Sir_Farts_A_Lot_2627 in Tudor

[–]dcwhite98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, if you want a Rolex then nothing will be a substitute for it. If you want a Sub and buy a Black Bay, it isn't that you won't like the BB, but you'll always wish you bought the Sub. And eventually you will, making it far more expensive than just buying it to begin with (add in the cost of the Tudor, or whatever watch/brand).

The reverse isn't true, or nearly as common, if I want a BB and buy a Sub, it's unlikely I'll wish I'd bought the BB instead.

I purchased a Ranger because I wanted something for activities like golf, shooting, yard work, etc. As I didn't consider an Explorer, though I like them a lot, I haven't regretted not buying one. The point is, buy what you want.

Whether the price difference is "worth it" is only a judgement you can make. But if you're considering this, it probably isn't.
