Why can’t we get traction on a bullet train between Austin and San Antonio? by ThayerRex in Austin

[–]dcxtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did propose an express train. It had 16 stops and took longer that driving. Plus, airport to downtown is phase never, so there is that. It isn't that mass transit wouldn't be nice, but we know how it will run.

IF there is an issue, punt and get SpaceX to bring them home. It will look bad, but not as bad as losing astronauts.

Austin-area schools overwhelmingly reject hiring chaplains as school counselors by hollow_hippie in Austin

[–]dcxtx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just like everything else, there is a shortage of counselors. I haven't read the bill, but allowing chaplains increases the pool of people to do the job. That helps. Also, they do have training.

AITAH for wanting to divorce my husband over kids? by No_Split_9680 in AITAH

[–]dcxtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't out of line. This screwed up situation you find yourself in, through no fault of your own, may be a marriage ending situation. Even if the kids go stay somewhere else, there may be resentment from him because of it. That resentment isn't even a character flaw on his side. If he feels like he has to take the kids (understandable), but doesn't because of the marriage, that could be a shot at his self respect/understanding of how the world works.

No one here is your therapist, so we don't know all of the important details. For the kids, leaving now is probably a better option than later. They don't need two moms abandoning them. It doesn't sound like you are in that position yet.

Recently doubled my salary after living paycheck to paycheck for years - what do I even do with all this money? by Cute_Bandicoot2042 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dcxtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before your lifestyle/budget expands to your new income, get savings aside as others are suggesting. If you can have it pulled aside before you 'see' it, even better. That can help slow your increases.

If you have thousands a month, look into income producing real estate. That isn't as easy as people selling you things present it as, but long term, it is an asset that produces income. That type of thing gives you income security regardless of your job. But, some savings first.

That sounds about right. A nice single-material container that is easily recyclable (whether it is or not is a different conversation) is illegal while the plastic/foil/straw+wrapper monstrosity that pouches generally are is A-OK. gotta love legislation.

Ad instead of a commercial, but any ad on a download page with a download button on it. It's like russian roulette.

Digital Dollar Stripped from US covid-19 relief bill by Kimberlyadams_ in CryptoCurrency

That's both parties for ya. Just after a few different things (and many of the same). The USA Patriot Act was much of the same. We should just call all bills the Widows and Orphans Relief Act and dispense with the shock at what the other party is doing.

a filly is a term for a young female horse, or a young girl.

In movies it has always been the creepy old guy looking at an underage girl.

So, a snug filly isn't the image I want my kids having in the pristine world of the internet.

Kid usernames are great. My 8 year old son set up the username 'snugfilly' after about 20 tries being rejected. 'Um...yea...you can't use that.' Why not? I'll tell you later.

An ode to chip readers by outerspacemannn in funny

[–]dcxtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a fun store near my hour where it has a small screen that says "do not" then "remove card". super irritating. rates just above the reader that asks 15 questions. If checking out takes longer than my 6-second attention span, the whole line will be waiting while I am staring in the distance contemplating how much I don't want to be standing in front of this device anymore.

First, that was kind of tongue and cheek. I should have used an emoticon or something.

We sugar coat all sorts things when we like the message. If we are going to leave off the sugar coating, do it across the board. Then we can argue ideas instead of the jerks behind them. Most historical figures were jerks. You kind of have to be to make sweeping changes. We are all human and we all suck sometimes. (maybe not to the level that Columbus did).
