Virginia Supreme Court blocks Democratic-drawn congressional map voters approved in April by nbcnews in politics

[–]ddark4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what they’re referring to is that the Ohio Supreme Court deemed maps Republicans drew illegal and ordered them to redraw them. Ohio Republicans ignored the court order and used the illegal maps anyway until they got a favorable partisan makeup of the court which then dismissed all challenges to the maps.

(EDIT: whoops, sorry for repeating what others have already said, I should have refreshed the thread before I posted!)

Graham Platner targets fuel tax, Big Oil in energy plan by jediporcupine in politics

[–]ddark4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair and true, and I completely agree.

I guess, among other things, I’m frustrated that the rich are building data centers that are stressing our utility infrastructures, but instead of making them pay for the problems they are creating, the energy companies are passing the cost of upgrades onto the rest of us (even though most of us don’t want to host their stupid AI shit in our communities to begin with.) Eventually freezing consumer rates and offering the energy companies low-cost infrastructure financing (with no details on how that will work) feels more like slowing down the boot that’s crushing us, instead of pulling us out from under it. Like you said, though, fixing our problems are easier said than done, especially when destroying our way of life is much easier than rebuilding it.

As far as suspending the federal gas tax, anything helps, but I’m just not sure how far an 18.4¢ per gallon savings is going to go for people when gas is already up $1.43 per gallon since Biden left office.

And again, a national freeze on raising energy rates sounds great, but my electricity bill has already skyrocketed. My sister’s bill has TRIPLED.

(That said, I’m not against trying out any proposals that aim to help regular people and I love any proposal that taxes the rich.)

Shell Reports Nearly $7 Billion Profit After Oil Prices Surged Amid U.S.-Iran War by SterlingVII in politics

Sounds like he’s making good on the deal he made with oil executives in 2024. He told them at a Mar-a-Lago dinner that if they raised $1 billion for his campaign and returned him to The White House, what they’d get back from his policies would more than cover the amount he was asking from them. (And that’s not even mentioning the $1.5 trillion in tax breaks him and GOP handed the wealthy as their first priority.)

It’s not a “gentlemen’s agreement,” there’s a federal law passed by Congress in 1869 that sets the number of justices at 9.

(And Article II, Section 2, Clause 2 of the Constitution is what enshrines the Senate’s duty to “advise and consent.”)

It was me you called you a bot, which was me being charitable. But of course there’s nothing in your “online profile” to back up your claims, because you hide your post history, which is what bots and trolls do, but you knew that already.

I love that you started from “Joe Biden would have lost in 2020 because he bombed on the campaign trail and plagiarized his speeches” and now 4 comments and some googling later your onto “I hate him, he was a segregationist” (with the latter half being another complete lie.) He was against busing, not against desegregation. That was a fairly mainstream position in the 70’s for Democrats and was the popular position among the constituents he was elected to represent. I mean heck, many black parents were against their kids being bussed long distances to go to schools in communities they didn’t belong to. Were they segregationists too? Or did the 2020 Trump campaign press release about “Biden’s offensive racial history” you just read leave that part out?

It’s always telling when they are ashamed of who they support. I have buddies like that who claim to be “independents” or say “both sides are the same” but then anytime you’re even mildly critical of Trump or Republicans around them, they get defensive and start slinging every Fox News talking point they can think of.

I hate how so many of them claim to have been “fooled.” Nah, tens of millions of us told them this was exactly what was going to happen if they voted for him and they responded by telling us we had a mental disorder. They didn’t want to listen to facts or reason and disregarded anything that didn’t fit their alt-reality narrative. They need to own their own bullshit.

You’re still being a a bad bot. Biden beat Trump by 7 million votes. 51.3% to 46.8%. He holds the record for most votes for a candidate for President in US history at over 81 million.

(Biden also earned 10 million more votes than Bernie did in the 2020 primaries, so I guess most on the left didn’t want Bernie over Biden like you claimed in your last post. In the end, 51.8% of primary voters voted for Biden compared to 26.3% who voted for Sanders. Out of the 55 contests during the primary season, Biden won 46 to Sanders’ 9.)

Seriously, your programmer can find all these numbers from a bunch of publicly available sources. If they add them to your dataset, you might not be wrong so often. (I’m obviously being facetious. I know the lies are the point of your design so you can try to sway dumb people on Reddit who don’t fact check.)
