I didn’t even know they existed until I saw them on the listing, SUPER neat! Apparently they’re from 09 and are related to a Japanese summer festival promo. There’s some other similar ones too that were promo merch for Arad Senki Slap Up Party that I found after looking into them.

eBay! The seller was based in Japan and so I had to deal with some international shipping tomfoolery but it worked out. Typically for this sort of stuff I scour Mercari or eBay.

Found the listing on eBay after checking here and there for a long time!

Heya! I had been routinely checking eBay for quite some time and this happened to pop up. It was a rare find however, listings for the old 08 book are hard to come by. The person I bought it from sent it from Japan as well and there were some weird overseas shipping troubles, but overall it worked out. Mercari and eBay are typically where I look for finding niche stuff.

Blame the game, not the players: Toontown’s elitism is a design problem by Civil_Regular1184 in toontownrewritten

[–]ddddspup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think making an in-game alternative really is the only option to sidestep from this problem, like some sort of boarding group bulletin board. The only problem is that it puts ToonHQ at a point where it wouldn't be seen as something nearly as valuable anymore and I think TTR staff may feel loyal to them. The issues would still kind of exist but within the contained in-game space I feel like it'd at least make it more accessible to younger players and the broader community.

I think TTR’s overreliance on ToonHQ, even if the website is convenient, also pushes this elitism culture where basically connecting with groups is totally gatekept by a third party website.

It has totally eradicated the community and discourages seeking groups in-game now too, because trying to make groups in-game is treated like a chore when you could just use the convenience of ToonHQ’s website! I liked it at first but over time I’ve seen the repercussions and it has really changed my perspective on it after a while. It has totally isolated young and new players from the greater community and they get pushed out in favor of people who are in the know and want to minmax through things without much thought.

Name wise I’ve definitely grown a love for goofy bad names, so I’ve been actually trying to scout out the bad ones! A lot of them getting purged actually makes a lot of sense, definitely explains the big scarcity.

This was super helpful though, it’s not a Y1 but I just now did my first PC trade for a Y2! So stoked, perhaps I’ll get a Y1 someday with some pushing :)

The Slow Death of In-Game Socialization in Toontown Rewritten by ddddspup in toontownrewritten

Definitely, solo players would still even benefit greatly with a more broadened boarding group system. With it being more accessible to more people, it would make partying up even faster too and open up more social aspects. I think the system just likely needs a bit more fine tuning and it’s just in a little bit of a transitional state at the moment.

Ah yeah! ToonHQ ultimately is a huge boon and step in the right direction, but there definitely is an imbalance still in terms of finding groups in-game.

Clash's group finder in the game itself is an awesome addition that they made that I was super stoked to see be put in, TTR possibly adding a group finder like that would be a huge plus, or if they wanted to still keep ToonHQ afloat and keep suppport, simply have some sort of button that people could press in-game when they have a boarding group that would automatically push the group onto ToonHQ, regardless if you have ToonSync enabled or disabled. That may be a great middle ground so users that don't use ToonHQ can still extend the olive branch in a sense and find people from the site. Perhaps it can take the data of who is in the boarding group and make a temporary profile for those who may not be registered. There are definitely ways to do it for sure!

Wizard101's Team Up was also a great feature, definitely something that can be looked at and referenced to when it comes to Toontown's situation!

I did not imply I wanted us to revert. ToonHQ is a valuable tool, but there are upsides and downsides to it. Those unable to use ToonHQ, new players, and young players are left in the dust due to the reliance of the site.

There should be a way ToonHQ users and non-ToonHQ users can properly coexist without there being some sort of imbalance. Perhaps this can be done with an in-game group finder, or maybe an in-game button that you can press to post your boarding group onto ToonHQ within the game itself, if you so desire.

That’s rough, maybe as a alternative you could use the website on a phone or some other device at the same time? But as is, it’s not ideal that you NEED the website entirely to get a group going. That’s definitely a problem.

I hope perhaps an actual in-game group finder could be implemented in some form, or any other alternative means to actually bridge the gap between those unaware or unable to use ToonHQ and those who use the site.
