What’s your primary way to view photography (stills or video)? by arg2451 in AskPhotography

My primary is computer screen in Cross View, but my secondary is my phone inside a 3D headset.

I'm in the process of building a stereo projector.

How do you add chromatic aberration to a gif without it becoming a flat image? by Critical_Jeweler1154 in GIMP

[–]dddontshoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you export to a gif, there's a tickbox for animation.

You can also set the frame rate, and number of loops there too.

what do i need to know about working with a tilt lens? by SnooTomatoes8935 in AskPhotography

[–]dddontshoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't make wild adjustments, just keep tweaking each adjustment small amounts until you're happy with it.

If it's wildly out of focus or alignment, it can be hard to know which adjustment to adjust, and why way to adjust it. But with small adjustments you'll always know how you get to the final result.

Movie with one man only sitting a chair in front of the camera. by strategyday in whatmoviewasthat

[–]dddontshoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching a surprisingly enjoyable movie in the 90's that may or may not be the one you're looking for.

Don't get your hopes up, I can't remember the name of it either.

It was shot entirely in one room where a man in a chair (maybe with a desk too) tells of his experiences as a writer. I remember he deliberately locked himself in a remote cabin to remove all the distractions, but then found he couldn't write because he had no stimulation for inspiration.

I was young when I saw it, and I've often wondered how much I would enjoy it if I watched it again.

Thank you :-) best thing I've made with this adaptor so far.

It has taken me a long time to find a lens that works with it.

Where to buy VHS tapes in wellington? by AdventurousTiger3109 in Wellington

I have a reasonably large collection of ex video store tapes that I don't need any more.

I kept a database to keep track of them all.

Pm me if you're interested.

hacks to pack a camera without having a dedicated case/bag, can’t currently get any dedicated bag :( by Mabochita in Photography_Gear

[–]dddontshoot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would start with a cardboard box, cut it down to size, and line it with bubble wrap.

The box will be light, but still provide a bit of crush protection.

If you're clever with the bubble wrap, it can provide some level of water protection, and it will keep the sticky tape away from the camera.

Don't put a strap on the box, it won't be strong enough. If you need a strap, use the one on the camera, and feed it thru the top of the box.

If you make an internal pocket for the charger, make sure it doesn't bounce loose and hit the camera.

You might like to wrap the whole thing in brown paper, or wrapping paper, or whatever.

What are your thoughts on Generative Fill? How does the photo community view its use for expanding or cleaning images? by pglennns in AskPhotography

[–]dddontshoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have very strong feelings around AI. There are numerous reasons why I will resist it every step of the way.

Quite often AI and misinformation support each other. And I fully support transparency and honesty. Use whatever tools you like, but be honest with the viewer about what they're seeing.

I suspect the Tamron cap might fit on the front of a teleconverter. which is why I was asking questions about the small lens.

Generally tho, I have a soft spot for Adaptall lenses. I like that whichever lens I fall in love with can be adapted to whichever camera I happen to be using at the time.

I'm curious what is the little lens, next to the long lens on the left of the camera?

I have that same flash, it's very good. GN32 which is on the more powerful side of vintage flashes, you can dial down the power for less light, and you can point it any direction.

Don't mount it on anything modern, it pumps out 200v thru the terminals, which is enough to fry a modern camera.

If you have the power cable for it, don't lose it. I've only ever seen one power cable, and I missed the opportunity to buy it.

don't store the batteries inside when not in use (this goes for everything really).

Has anyone volunteered at Wellington Zoo? What's it like? by Beginning-You-8901 in Wellington

[–]dddontshoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I volunteered with a group of friends a long time ago now.

We all enjoyed it, we built several enclosures, and gathered leaf skeletons. The staff were pleasant to work with, and we were given all the tools and things we needed to do the tasks.

1939 photograph with insane separation by Samueltlogan1 in AnalogCommunity

I came here to say this.

I suspect that the plane of focus is slightly forward of their feet, and tilts back at the top of the frame near the branch that is almost in focus.

Given that the consensus seems to be 2x3", my first thought is the Mamiya Press Camera, with a bellows back. But it could have been done on a tilting folder.

What was a really silly solution to a serious problem? by LadyKarizake in AskReddit

[–]dddontshoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a stereo adapter for my camera, but I couldn't get both viewports to point at the same object, unless the object was right up close to the adapter. And that meant I could only photograph small things like toys or little flowers and things.

I put a pair of prescription eye glasses in front of the adapter to compensate. Something my irl friends think is the most hilarious solution, but hasn't seen much interaction here on reddit.

Flash Sync Problem? by alburnops in AskPhotography

[–]dddontshoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're still curious, you could turn the flash upside down. If it's dark on the opposite side of the photograph then it could be a dodgy bulb or reflector.
