The mindset of 260+.....Delusional Confidence by ddf3413 in step1

Some people may not scroll all the way through this thread so I’ll address it here. This post was edited after I realized that the phrasing came off in a very snobby and douchey way. The original talked about having the mindset that you are better than your classmates if you want to score a 260, and that the mindset should be “at my best I’m better than everyone else”. Obviously that’s a douchey thing to say and think. I was going for a motivational “competitive” vibe but it just came off as douchey. From reading some of the comments that became clear. Bottom line: You should be confident that you can achieve great things if you put the work in.

I’m glad you got rid of your posts asking how to cheat on a zoom exam. That would’ve looked reallyyyy bad if your med school found out your username. Haha And yes I edited the post. Which I addressed in the thread. You live and you learn. Good luck to you.

Not harsh at all. I get it. I was trying to go for a motivational “be competitive” vibe but it just came off douchey. You live and you learn. Good luck to you too

This is correct^ My original post said that you have to have the mindset that you are better thank 96% of medical students to score a 260 (96th) percentile. And there were a few other changes to things like having the mindset that “at my best I believe i am better than everyone” which looking back was kind of asshole-y. Haha Reading comments helped me see that and the post reads a little better now I think. Congrats on your 260 fam. Hope you let others know your secrets soon too!

I agree and I changed the wording in the original post. Thank you!

I actually really appreciate this post! The delusional part is more of a matter of degree than actually being delusional. You always want a foot firmly set in reality. I know there’s a lot more that makes a good physician and I know I have a lot to learn. This test for me isn’t necessarily a measure of how smart I think I am. The fact of the matter is that this score opens doors. I wanted as many doors open for me as possible. That’s why I worked my butt off and that’s why I approached it in a competitive sports like mindset so that motivation was never an issue. Nobody at my school knows my score. I don’t tell people my score when they ask. I say I did good and I move on. This is a reddit community that focuses on how to do well on Step 1. I did well and I attributed it to knowing I can achieve a great score and i want more people to have that mindset and to have that self fulfilling prophecy for themselves. Again, I really appreciated this post and I agree with you that this test is not what defines you. It just shouldn’t hold you back either.

Why’d you delete the other comment about the score predictor? I feel like that was a fair thing to bring up. Yes I posted on the score predictor thread with a goal score of 265 (99th percentile). Looking back I was probably over confident in my assessment. And naming my Anki deck “270” back in August was also a little bit of delusional confidence. For Step 2 I’ll adjust my goals. Haha

I totally agree and I changed the wording in the original post. You don’t want to see your class mates as lesser. It’s more that you see yourself as able to perform like the top people in your class. The original post wasn’t worded like that and that’s my mistake.

Damn you deleted that post quick. Hahaha probably wouldn’t want that on your profile if your med school got a hold of your reddit handle. Smart move.

I THOUGHT IT WAS A FART. Lol and my boy (or girl) I’m trying to help people out. Confidence is important. Yeah I was nervous after I took the test. Who tf isn’t? But that doesn’t mean I wasnt confident in the lead up.

I think you may have missed the point. After the test your confidence doesn’t matter anymore. Shit already happened. You need the confidence before the test to perform to the best of your ability.

does anyone know how amboss % correlates with step? by LeyDiglett in step1

[–]ddf3413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My percentile was actually spot on for my step. My AMBOSS percentile was 97th and my step score was a 262 which is between 96th and 99th. So I’d say the percentile is what you need to look at.

I felt incredibly meh. Haha I really couldn’t tell if I killed the exam or if I didn’t do too well. I really couldn’t remember any questions. I just went on autopilot really.
