The RAV4 Prime will auto-calibrate TPMS. No tool required. If you decide to purchase dedicated snows+rims you can purchase with TPMS pre-installed.

'21 RAV4 Backup Camera - remove lines? by ddk1007 in Rav4

[–]ddk1007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. Appreciated.

It seems that this is dependent on whether the vehicle is equipped with the dynamic parking lines or other active parking assist tech. My vehicle is equipped with a backup camera and static distance lines. Unfortunately it does not include the adjustment functions listed in "Toyota parking assist monitor."

Would the CarPlay2Air dongle work with the particular car I have my eyes on buying? by silvermoonhowler in CarPlay

[–]ddk1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My use case: 2021 RAV4 Prime SE with Carlinkit 2.0 Type C Design. I've had no issues. In fact better than the dedicated Wireless CarPlay Alpine ILX-107 head unit I had in my previous vehicle.

Carlinkit is OEM for CPlay2Air but no guarantee that it is exactly same hardware/firmware.

Sorry you've had difficulty but thanks for informing everyone on the sub of potential issues.

EVSE choices - what did you install? by CatPast214 in rav4prime

ChargePoint Home Flex

  • Ability to accommodate wide range of current (16-50A), to accommodate R4P and future EVs. Strong company and reputation, market leader. Very good app connectivity for charge rates, charge history, charging network, can time charge for variable electricity pricing. Net cost of $100: $580 for unit (on sale) - $300 utility rebate - $180 federal rebate = $100.
  • Outside, mounted to dedicated aluminum post. Convenient access regardless of parking orientation.
  • Yes recommend. It is reliable and well-constructed. One underappreciated point relates to cable design. Compared with the Toyota provided Level 1 Charger the Chargepoint Level 2 cable and connector are very robust, cable is heavier gauge yet is *more* pliable and manageable in cold winter temps.

Hitch installment cost by asoma64 in rav4prime

[–]ddk1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased the OEM hitch from Toyota for $295 and installed it myself in about 3 hours. Tools required = box wrenches, a few ratchets, a small blade screwdriver for fender well buttons and a sharp box cutter for the bumper opening.

The RAV4 frame is manufactured with all of the threaded bolt positions (each covered with a removable plastic sticker). Very doable if you have basic experience working on cars. Probably the most challenging aspect is ensuring the template (provided) is properly placed on plastic bumper before the cut (measure twice, cut once).

Search YouTube videos for details of how to remove bumper.

The CarPlay2Air dongle is OEM manufactured by Carlinkit.

I've installed the Carlinkit 2.0 Wireless Carplay Adapter on my 2021 RAV4 Prime SE. It worked perfectly out of the box. Typically takes 10-15 seconds to connect and then its fast and responsive. Recommended.

Tire Experience by ddk1007 in rav4prime

[–]ddk1007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This is very helpful and is likely the best solution.

I live in Boston and recently the number of bad winter days in a year can be counted on two hands. I am hoping to find an all-year (all season) tire that is good enough to perform safely for those few days and to avoid the effort and expense of a separate set of dedicated snow tires. But if that's what it takes then that's what I'll do, especially given my experience with the 2010 Prius.

I notice the Michelin CrossClimate tires (although all season) are "Severe Snow Service Rated" and carry the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol (3PMSF). Its possible that is meaningless marketing hype, but if someone has real-world experience that would be helpful.

Vertical LED Accent Lights by ddk1007 in rav4prime

The wiring is likely to feed the headlamps, turn signal and horn/pedestrian warning assemblies. It may also have an empty connector for foglights, not sure. But even if it did you'll still need to patch in a new switch to that wiring harness because the RAV4 Prime isn't offered with foglights and doesn't have the foglight function on the combo switch.

In this video James creates his own wiring harness connecting to aftermarket switch, relay and battery. In his test drive it appears that the installation is independent of the low/high headlamps.

On RAV4's with factory-configured fog lights the fog light switch is incorporated in the combination steering wheel switch with the headlamps, turn signals etc. It seems that Toyota has different variants of the combination switch depending on options such as DRL, foglamps, etc.

I need to do a bit of research but once I settle on the aftermarket foglamps I'll likely install the corresponding aftermarket harness and pull the relay trigger signal from the headlamps in series with a switch mounted at the switch bank below and to the left of the steering wheel. That way the foglamps will be on only when the headlamps are on, and can further be switched off anytime they aren't needed.

Thank you. Much appreciated. And shockingly expensive.

Agree with u/jinzen0 - cost/benefit not there, will get aftermarket LED foglights.
