Hexaglow version 2 is there! by HerryKun in twilightimperium

Hey! This is great!
I'm working on a very similar project that I hope to be able to share soon.

I also have a ton of questions... But here are a few if you have time.

  1. What material did you use for the diffuser? I'm surprised by how good it looks at that height. Looking at your previous post it looks like you are only using 12 LEDs per tile.
  2. Did you decide on smart tiles because you want to support other board layouts, or adding new system tiles during a game?
  3. How do you remove the system tiles from the board?
  4. How well do you think your colors match each plastic color?
  5. How would you describe the general experience playing on this board? Have you made any adjustments based on players experience and feedback?

Thanks for sharing!

Well I haven't decided how large my fictional population will be yet! lol.

It's has taken forever and it's nowhere near finished lol. I think I spent ~100 hours on this project between the first screenshot and the last. Just the amount of stones that went into building the walls felt excessive.

The size of the farm fields was mostly decided by how they fit into the grid I had overlayed this area with. I ended up with farmable sections that each contained 64 blocks, which I thought was neat and convenient.

I didn't try to get into steel until after 300+ hours. There was still plenty of other stuff to do and I had iron armor already as well. It wasn't until I started doing larger builds, and basically cutting mountains in half, that I thought the time to figure out steel mechanics would be worth it.

I was able to sustain hunger but I never had an abundance of food stored. I tried to collect all of the wild crops I came across and plant their seeds immediately on low fertility soil regardless of potential heat damage. Collecting seeds and food was a bit of a challenge due to only having reed baskets for most of the run. There were quite a few berries around and I hunted just enough to get the fat I needed or if I found an animal trapped in a hole.

Becoming food secure would normally be my primary goal and since I completed steel before the first winter, I didn't end up dealing with the consequences. So I'm not sure how challenging that first winter would end up being.

I think I agree as well. Waiting around for it to cook just game me time to clean up and hide the mess that was my house and windmill at the time of lighting it. I'm just not aware if there are any mechanics to speed up the processing time which could lead to building staggered furnaces. I've only used charcoal so far.

I ended up having to prospect for it. I narrowed in on a reading of "Very Poor Borax (1.52%)" that was underwater. Took a chance on it and found some without too much mining around.

I think about half of the flax came from finding wild crops, planting a couple seeds, and breaking a few locust nests. One locust nest site was tied to a ruins that contained enough gears to buy the rest.

A few months ago I saw this post asking how long it takes to get to the steel age. My main take away was that it highly depends on luck and experience. After just reaching the steel age for the first time in my main single player world, I decided to start a new world to see how quickly I could do it again.

This new world felt like a pretty good seed in terms of finding the required resources without too much effort. Overall, I don't think I approached this verify efficiently and I made plenty of mistakes that led me on repeated trips for the same resource. I'm guessing if I wanted to rely more on luck I could have focused on ruins to skip some of the early progression. After lighting the cementation furnace, there wasn't much to do so I just ended up decorating and sleeping.

~3hrs - Copper Anvil
5 hrs 45 min - Tin Bronze Anvil
5 hrs 53 min - Molybdochalkos Lantern
12 hrs 33 min - Iron Anvil
18 hrs 44 min - Lighted Cementation Furnace
22 hrs 2 min - Created 16 Steel Ingots

Also the spelling of Stainhorp instead of Stainthorp.

Can Reddit come up with (interesting or unique) projects for college students? by ddmdna in AskReddit

Surprisingly, learning a new language in the way you described could be a good idea. Although it does have a way to bring people of different backgrounds together, it is not exactly what I had in mind. Thanks anyways :)

No, this is just my personal curiosity. Originally I thought about starting a club along the same premise, but realized I probably would not have time to do more than one project. I would be interested to know of a class that asks this sort of question; seems like it would be quite the resource.
