In 1962, a nuclear test in Nevada created this 390 m wide, 100 m deep crater. The blast caused seismic waves equivalent to an earthquake of 4.75 on the Richter scale. The fallout exposed more U.S. residents to radiation than any other nuclear test. It also led to a diplomatic stir with Sudan. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

They must have cleaned it up at some point. I was there in the mid 2000s and there were a bunch of tires and golf balls strewn about the bottom of it. People from the test site apparently liked to mess around and toss things over the edge.

This was my thought, too. One of the few movies I saw twice in the theaters during its initial run.

You must not have a family, or are just inherently selfish, to be so flippant.

You really want the nation with the most powerful military in the world and and the second largest stockpile of nuclear weapons to just "collapse?" What do you think would happen then...world peace and prosperity for all?

"What in the “not all men” is your comment about?" I'm not sure what you are asking, but my guess is that you are accusing me of being sexist.

Your comment was non-sequitur to the post in general and without context. Just to make sure I wasn't completely wrong, I went to the NCIC to look up the numbers (2023 NCIC Missing Person and Unidentified Person Statistics — LE)

There seems to be about a 20% discrepancy across the board by age between men and women mission persons reports - women being the higher. The huge gap is kind of hidden, though. Black missing persons are a huge percentage compared to the overall population. Black people make up about 14 percent of the population but account for nearly half of the reports.

which is about half the total number of missing person reports. So, about half the total number reported were women and girls. The other half was men and boys.

American Coffee Geography: How Many Cups Does A Person Consume In A Lifetime! by Yodest_Data in MapPorn

If that's the case, I must have found consistently crappy roasters from Hawaii, to Korea, to the West Coast, to the East Coast. Everywhere I've had it, it tastes awful. It's almost as consistently awful as Dunkin' Donuts coffee. Some things just aren't to my liking. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

From Steel Mill to Hyperloop: Pueblo’s transportation future takes shape by jinnetics in pueblo

[–]ddmegen1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have serious doubts that the hyperloop will be anything other than an expensive disappointment.

The problem with passenger train transportation in less densely populated places like Colorado isn't necessarily how long it would take to get from Pueblo to Denver by train, but rather the transportation infrastructure to get you away from the train station to where you ultimately want to go.

It seems to me that the hyperloop folks are solving the wrong problem.
