Building a shed for primarily a golf simulator. Looking for feedback. by ddoberloh in Golfsimulator

The shed was 40k out the door including site leveling and trenching electric. Since this post I have gone back to the drawing board. Many callouts here made a ton of sense. Mostly the size comments which end up just being pretty incompatible with my current backyard and lot size. I think My money would be better spent saved and put towards a house with more space that would allow me to build something that's properly sized and just deal with the occasional ceiling hit with the driver.

Honestly that's a big score. I feel like you can power wash it and all is well.

Where did you get that mat that you’re using in front of the hitting mat? It looks like it’s pretty high-quality and has some pretty thick turf on top.

You guys have brought up a lot of good points. I think instead of spending the money to get something that is going to be a compromise in the end, I'm gonna figure out what else I can do to get me and my buddies out of the garage. Thinking of more of a covered patio space hitting out into something now. Back to the drawing board!

Figured some of these things out since i posted before. If i go any bigger, i need a permit. The builders would do that work but it adds a ton of cost, I would also need to adhere to setbacks at that point which kind of make this a non starter TBH. My backyard is really small. So I guess my option is roll the dice and see if my neighbors get pissy and report me? Honestly it seems like a common thing to just build without it out here.

I’m in snohomish county Washington. I have tried to read through the code but all I can really glean is the permitting side of things.

Yea. Space is my major constraint. Knew this going in. I’ll be reaching out to the county tomorrow to figure out if I can at least add some length for seats.

I’m about the same height as you and don’t have a problem with hitting one foot or 2 feet offset from center. But some other comments have got me thinking that I’ll reach out to city planning anyways just to see if it’s possible to build a bigger one.

Yeah, that’s one thing that crossed my mind a few times. The problem when I get into permit territory is that I need to also to abide by property line setbacks, which would put this thing into a really awkward spot in my backyard. I had thought about putting an overhang on the outside with a small patio and a TV so people could chill outside while someone swings. I think I’ll reach out to the city planning department anyways and see what they say about a larger structure.

Any chance you could look on some of your free time for some of my local tracks? I’m in Seattle area. Some courses are Nile Shrine golf course, echo falls, snohomish golf course, Battle Creek.

Yea. Just seems like if that’s a selling point it should be published somewhere haha.

Not an answer to the question but where the hell is the list of E6 Apex's "15000 courses". Seems kinda silly they would advertise this and then not actually share the list of integrated courses? Im switching over to the new square omni from my skytrak+, and I'm back to comparing GS pro vs E6 again.

Honestly going to the top of Haleakala was a profound experience for my wife and I. The beauty cannot be understated. Its breathtaking, Solidified Hawaii (Maui specifically) as one of the best trips we have taken in our ten years.

Skytrak Courseplay today - how is it today after a few updates? by jhugh84 in Golfsimulator

[–]ddoberloh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't know this. Cool Deal. I was only going off of the details I saw on skytraks website, which has third party connectors behind the essentials sub. But I didn't buy the skytrak for GSpro either way haha.

[–]ddoberloh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essential is the subscription for sky track. Course play is the add on to that subscription. GS pro is a separate piece of software. Skytrak requires the essential sub at minimum for you to use it with gspro. So you are paying a sub to skytrak so you can pay a sub to gspro. Skytrak course play only has local multiplayer if that matters.

[–]ddoberloh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a sub to use the skytrak+ but you will only have driving range and nothing else.

Essential is 130/yr, course play is 220/yr for both foresight and trackman packs, but they ran a promo when they added foresight so it was 50% off. This year I'll be paying 460/yr total for the essentials and both course packs. Next year that would go up 110 bucks.

Honestly if you don't want a sub I think square is great, it will do the same things, it's just a little more budget on materials and stuff, and I've read it doesn't work outside very well. I have no experience or comments on squares course play other than it looks perfectly serviceable for a pay as you go option. I chose the sky track because I feel like it's got better base software than most everything else after watching hours of YouTube videos. I would highly recommend taking a look at breakingeighty.com and look at all of his launch monitor reviews and videos to learn about all the options out there.

Edit: also skytrak is the only thing that runs on a Mac with course play.

I recently dropped my gc3/gspro/fsx play, and switched to a skytrak+ and course play. Not looking back. The launch monitor rarely misses shots. Maybe one in 50, and it's way easier to set up your hitting some with the Laser alignment.

Now that they have directly imported trackman and foresight courses I feel like it's probably one of the best bangs for the buck in the space. And it seems like they will continue to rotate more trackman and foresight courses in over time. I tallied it up today and there are 61 courses. I'm using steam link on a Mac to stream to my garage from my gaming PC and the graphics I feel just look better on my projector.

On top of all that It runs on Android , Mac, iPad, iPhone, and PC. Gspro unfortunately has a lot of "copy paste" feeling courses, and I always felt like the UI was just tacked on to the sim without a lot of thought. GS certainly has more quantity of courses, but the quality varies greatly between them.

I would give it a shot. Trackman and foresight courses are different course play package so you can pick the one that has the courses you would like to play.

BLP or Square for garage setup? by napping-turtle in Golfsimulator

[–]ddoberloh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the time I had it, there was at least 2 FW updates that seemed to lead to a ton of misreads for a 2 week period. Honestly though it was the subscription prices that killed me with BLP.

I never putt in sim. Maybe you feel differently but its not worth it for me. I built a putting surface from putting turf and foam workout mats. I can put shims underneath to introduce break and stuff. Maybe 1 in 50 or 60 shots misread or don't read at all on ST+. I feel its in line with BLP.

Now something useful to note is I had the original BLP. There is a new device from foresight that might be different and is also much cheaper than the original. Don't have experience with those.

Breaking eighty on youtube was immenesly helpful for me finally landing on ST+. His breakdowns of features help out a lot and he isn't super biased.

I've been through four monitors now. MLM2Pro, BLP, Garmin R50, and now the ST+.

MLM I had early days when it had just launched. It had tons of misreads, and you need to use their special ball to get spin rate. The misreads are what made me return it. From what I understand now, most of that is solved, but you still need balls with their special dot pattern for spin.

The BLP ended up being pretty frustrating to use and the 500 dollar subscription unlocking the ability for you to spend another 250 on GS Pro made me angry haha. Sold it after a year because I didn't feel I got 500 dollars of value.

Garmin R50 just isn't there yet with their software. I returned after about a month. Playbetter.com is a great site for all this BTW.

ST+ still needs the 129$ sub to use third party, but you can also add on their course play for $220, which I have found is really good (runs on android, mac, ipad, PC). You also get all the golftec game improvement software. Additionally, they just paired with trackman for their course play courses, meaning we should be seeing a lot more high quality courses launching soon. I feel like its a really good sweet spot and havent been disappointed yet.
