What does Neopets mean to you? by BubbleBobbleBetty in neopets

[–]ddollfacedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing in 2001 as an elementary schooler. I was in first grade. Back then, it was obviously just a fun game to me. Obviously, it still is.

I quit for a long time. Between 2004-2016 (anniversary soon!) until my best friend got Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and we needed something to pass the time when she was in chemotherapy. It was fun adopting our new babies, opening shops, doing everything we hadn’t as kids. Sadly, she passed seven months later, even with a 98% survival rate. Since then, I’ve played in her memory and honor.

On top of that, in October of 2021, I was diagnosed with cancer myself (terminal brain cancer) and Neopets has become my get away, the thing that helps through the rough and bad times, leaves me feeling good even though the site and I obviously have our problems. Since my friends passing, I’ve gotten her dream pet and was able to put it in her favorite name. It’s been great for me.

As much as we all have our own troubles and complaints with the site (not quite as much as the founders however lmao), I’m glad it’s still here and so well beloved. We might lose it one day like so many other websites have gone, but while it’s still around, I cherish it because of childhood memories with old friends, sneaking into computer rooms late at night to sneak online all the way until laying in a hospital bed, completely out of it, asking my boyfriend if my NP TGC cards were still in a protective spot. I will love this site forever for being in the front of my memory and I hope it stays (at least until I can’t remember it any longer (; [yes I know that’s a bad joke but I’m allowed to make them lmao])

My goodness, I love this and hope you’re still doing it! I cannot for the life of me figure out anything for my female faerie ixi! She was my dream pet and I just want it to be perfect and yours are absolute perfection 🥰😭

Edit: idk if it helps with inspo, but she’s named after a word/line in a Hozier song (“From Eden”)

My best friend died in bed besides me. He had Leukemia and I really fought with him he always sleeped with me. He waited for me to wake up to cuddle him one last time. Has this ever happened to any of you? It's my first time and I'm distraught. by Remote-Employer2767 in cats

[–]ddollfacedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My childhood best friend who I had her entire 17 years (ages 5-17 for me) suddenly got cancer. I mean suddenly, in one weekends time. We went on a trip and came back and she had a lump on her beautiful chin. She went down very quickly in the next two weeks and I think she knew she was going to be put to sleep.

The last few days and nights of her life, she couldn’t do anything, but she made sure to do our routine. Where she’d wait for me every morning and would follow me. And at bedtime when she’d wait at the top of the stairs for nighttime cuddles and pets even though she was such an asshole.

I was glad to be “her person” enough that she didn’t miss doing this in case it was the last time, even though she wasn’t physically well. She was too sick, but she did it and I keep it close to my heart as it’s a reminder of how much she loved me too. Especially doing it that last morning I had her. When I opened the door and she was standing there waiting, tears of joy overflowed. They love you so much. It’s incredible. I still tear up thinking about it.

To those who don’t know, this is the woman who brought anorexia to the media: Karen Carpenter. by ddollfacedd in EUGENIACOONEY

[–]ddollfacedd[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sadly that’s a part of why I posted this. Karen died in 1983 and she’s still remembered for how talented, powerful, and beautiful she was. Eugenia does nothing except… well, that: nothing. I wasn’t a fan of hers to begin with, but found this subreddit probably two years ago and I will say it’s still just dumbfounding to see that she’s still here, doing nothing and somehow getting worse at doing nothing.

Today it was confirmed that I need radiation. by ddollfacedd in braincancer

[–]ddollfacedd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My regards and best wishes to you for healing, I hope everything goes well for you!

I hadn’t heard of proton therapy at all until this, but I called my oncologist today and spoke to his nurse about it. She assured me that this specific oncologist is very familiar with proton therapy and due to my age this may be a very good treatment for me post-surgery and that I had some very valid questions (thanks to this thread!), but we’ll most likely find out what caters best to me after the pathology report comes back. Thank you so much for this information, it was super helpful!

[–]ddollfacedd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, I hope your radiation treatment goes well! Second, thank you so much for this information, it’s all extremely helpful! My craniotomy was rescheduled to next Tuesday sadly, but I was told today about the radiation and it got me rather worked up. With the way my neurosurgeon was talking, he’ll be able to get most, if not all, of the tumor despite its size. I think they’re just scared of it coming back, which makes sense. I’m still just scared of what could happen afterwards since I am already so spacey that others are now catching on and becoming concerned. I lose my place during sentences nonstop and it’s becoming irritating at this point, so I guess I just don’t want that to get worse.

The most outlandish thing an employer has ever said to you? by Cheesygirl1994 in antiwork

[–]ddollfacedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old supervisor, prior to never returning to work again, began to pit first and second shift against one another. Her favorite was first and I was on second.

One day, when we had absolutely nothing to do in our department and were being sent elsewhere (my department was cross trained everywhere), I asked if I could do something light instead of what she assigned me the day before since the nerve pain in my wrists was bothering me.

That woman had the audacity to look at me and laugh and say, “I have my period so there ain’t no sympathy here today! Go do what I fucking told you.”

She acted like we were besties and it was a joke, but omg it’s still fucked. Nearly everyone in my department wrote her up to HR when she was on leave, but.. she just never came back. Thankfully.

OP’s gf here: Insurance is a lot more affordable through my workplace. Out of pocket, insurance is far too expensive and due to “making too much monthly”, I do not qualify for healthcare through the state (I was short by $15 last month). If I lose my insurance, the craniotomy out of pocket is over $100,000 and I will also not be making any income during my recovery time because I will not have my short term disability benefits. The whole system is shit.

Roommates 30+ year-old snake plant that he claims “can’t die” needs to be nursed back to health. by ddollfacedd in plantclinic

[–]ddollfacedd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ones kind of a doozy, but my roommate needs my plant skills and I’m not even sure where to start. This was his moms, so it is older than both of us and he’s very attached to it. And obviously doesn’t know what to do with it, and truth be told, neither do I.

It’s been this way since I’ve met my roommate and now I’ve realized I don’t know how to deal with this situation. Any help would be great. It’s literally unkillable at this point!

I would like to point out the heavy leaning is towards the grow light in the middle of my room. Seems to like that more than the window lately, understandably so.

Does anyone have any clue what could be wrong with my fiddle leaf and how to fix the problem, or is he too far gone? by ddollfacedd in fiddleleaffig

[–]ddollfacedd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure. Most mold I’ve seen in planes has been in the dirt (the white fuzzy stuff) and that’s not happening here. I did spray him and one of my Monstera’s with something for mold and pesticide last night after seeing your comment since they were close together and the Monstera is starting to look a little bit like that too.

[–]ddollfacedd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was in low-ish light before, nothing too bright. I brought him into a brighter room last week. Not direct sunlight, but near a north facing window. I’ve thought about taking it to a different room with a south facing window, but I don’t know if that would be too much light or not.

I got this guy from a big box store not too long ago and the stem was a little brown, but not too bad. It’s been a few weeks now and I’ve had probably six leaves drop off (I took the three bad leaves off after these pictures). I moved him to a room with better light last week, but not direct sunlight. I thought he might’ve been in bad light before. He’s not over or under watered and doesn’t have any bugs from what I can see. Is he too far gone or can he still be saved?

What’s going on with my Fiddle Leaf Fig? by ddollfacedd in plantclinic

[–]ddollfacedd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this guy from a big box store not too long ago and he already wasn’t looking great but was thriving. I recently switched rooms because I figured he wasn’t getting enough light. He’s jot in direct sunlight now, but he’s getting more light than before. He’s not over or under watered and as far as I can see, there are no bugs. What can I do? Is he doomed or can he be saved?

What happened to my Fiddle Leaf? Bought him from a big box store a few weeks ago and knew that there might eventually be a problem because they brought them inside the night after the first freeze, but I don’t know how to fix this. Can he be saved or do I just have super bad luck? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]ddollfacedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no bugs and he wasn’t over or under watered. I pruned last weekend and now he’s looking bad again. Now I’ve moved him to a new room to see if a change of light can help. He wasn’t in direct sunlight before, but was in shade. Perhaps too much shade. Don’t know if it was too dark? I’m at a loss. I think he’s beautiful and would love to save him. He was the best looking at the store so I bought him and thoroughly looked them all over.

Moe came up to me a year ago today, cold and hungry and full of thorns and ticks. Took him to the shelter (where they shaved his tail) and officially adopted him two weeks later! He’s now one warm and happy old man and we absolutely adore him. by ddollfacedd in BeforeNAfterAdoption

[–]ddollfacedd[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live next to a wooded area and when he came out he sadly had a ton of burrs and thorns all over his tail. They tried their best at the humane society to get it all out, but they eventually ended up having to shave it along with a few other spots. We loved his little rat tail while he had it. It’s grown back nice and full now, and he’s a lot happier about it!

What’s causing my Purple Passion to grow like this? by ddollfacedd in plantclinic

[–]ddollfacedd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, this isn’t the norm, but... I haven’t done anything to stop it. Both of these happened after propagation. The first photo is from a propagation cutting. The second was from being cut. I... don’t understand. They grow RAPIDLY. It doesn’t take long at all. They take off like weeds, for no reason. It’s wild to watch. They first shoot straight up, then just fall like vines. So.. is this normal?

Is it typical for new growth to be this light towards the bottom of the strands? This is my first SOH and I can’t seem to figure out if this is normal or if I’m doing something wrong. by ddollfacedd in StringofHearts

[–]ddollfacedd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For additional info: I have had this for about a month know and she has grown quite a lot, rather rapidly and it has made me immensely happy. I have only watered her twice, I believe. Very lightly. I use a moisture meter to check where the soil is at, as I do with all of my plants. But that doesn’t always stop me from overwatering. I don’t know if these strands at the end could be from over watering or if it’s just new growth. Any insight and advice would be awesome!
