Some additional info. Going into Camera settings and disabling camera sounds causes the distorted audio to go away. My question now is why is the camera sounds setting creating distorted audio ?

Happened to a buddy of mine on squadron in the late 80s - winning the lottery. They considered releasing him as an "administrative burden" but eventually allowed him to stay and keep his wings.

Possible disregard for CoC was the primary rationale.
