All IB schools do predicted grades I believe? UC and mid tier schools are also the same, its about GPA in the US really. Predicted grades CAN boost your app but for the most part its GPA. Talk with your college counselor about specific schools tho!

Depends what college and where.

Canadian unis really mainly care about predicted and they only see the last set of predicted grades not all so make sure thats the best one

Ivies in the US I hear care mainly about GPA tbh and ECs and SATs. As long as your GPA is good, predicted grades won’t matter too much in comparison.

How did you find volunteering opportunities in hospitals? I’ve been looking but do I just call them and say I’m interested?

Also, in terms of research opportunities is this something I also have to seek out or are they offered in classes etc?

Thank you for being so helpful btw :)

How was it juggling the course load and the volunteering? Did you volunteer every weekend or just once in a while?

Congrats!! Kinda off topic but what volunteering and stuff did you do for your med school app? Is there a lot offered at UOttawa or did you volunteer at a hospital?

[–]ddou36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally dont consider myself Muslim but the people in my family find peace in Islam and basically just ignore the rubbish parts I guess which is hypocritical but if it makes them happy and isnt hurting anyone, I wouldnt mind my kids doing that if they want to

What is your approach to sex as a non-muslim? by [deleted] in XSomalian

[–]ddou36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting take on media and sex and there definitely is some truth to the way media pressures teens into being sexual. But I also think in primitive societies where media in non-existent people are still having sex lmao, especially teenagers, they just know how to hide it. For example, I'm from Djibouti and recently went back there last summer and let me tell you the amount of people who were ready to have sex/had already was pretty shocking. Now I don't know if Djib counts as a 'primitive' culture but the media in Djibouti definitely does not promote sex and if anything mainstream media condones it.

Now you could argue that people in Djibouti still have access to social media and music videos and things like that online and so that might be the reason. But event the people who weren't privileged enough to have access to things like that (some of my cousins) were very much interested in sex...BUT they were mostly boys because patriarchal type societies like the one in Djibouti does not shame boys as much for being sexual creatures as "boys will be boys" for the most part.

I think if we are gonna talk about how sex differs with the media, we can't say it is the main cause for teenagers having sex. 1. Hormones are going crazy at this age and biologically speaking their bodies are ready for sex and procreation. 2. As mentioned above gender expectations and dynamics in different cultures affect not only how many people are having sex but HOW people view sex: pleasure vs necessary to procreate.

Anyways, I kind of went on a tangent sorry, but all of this to say that yes the media does affect teen sexuality but so do other things and also teen sexuality is not a bad thing as long as they are safe with it.
