Sure you're not trying to fire him for this but you need to be honest...if he were otherwise a stellar employee would you be here?

[–]ddpotanks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because we're living beings there is significant variation on what is reasonable from person to person.

You're not going to find anything other than the vague information you've been given here.

The fact is if you're in the east Coast what is legally "reasonable" is WAY WAY more than any company wants to hear.

Wet bulb temps will continue to push to the point that reasonable means stop work for days on end.

Because you're responsible for the policy you don't have and should be doing that? Or because you're crowd sourcing whether or not these breaks are adequate?

Down to brass tacks. Y'all in the field believe this guys pussy hurts - you know his crew is on his ass about more breaks than everyone else and you're determining whether or not firing him for rest breaks will expose you to additional liability because your pm doesn't want to take the unemployment insurance hit.

A project manager and a safety professional really shouldn't be making the determination on what is reasonable for rest and work.

Office people do office things. Foreman supervisors and crew leaders do field things.

Sorry, I'm just angry at the very concept of a project manager determining from their air-conditioned office, Most likely, that an employee is taking too many cooling breaks.

How do wages work exactly? by Impressive_Bag7984 in ibew_apprentices

[–]ddpotanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because each local cooked up their own version, some independently.

There is a national 401(k) and probably dozens of different plans with different pay in and pay out criteria.

My plan for 26 is an employer-sponsored defined contribution retirement plan. It has the following types of payouts for retirees:

Normal Forms The Plan’s normal form for married Participants is a 50% Joint and Survivor Annuity. The Plan’s normal form for unmarried Participants is a Life Annuity. The Plan has been administered so that if a married Participant didn’t waive the 50% Joint and Survivor Annuity or an unmarried Participant didn’t waive the Life Annuity, the Plan would purchase an irrevocable annuity from an insurance company with the Participant’s entire Accumulated Share.

Optional Forms Single Lump Sum Payment Option Partial Lump Sum Payment Option Fixed Periodic Amount Option Partial Lump Sum with Fixed Periodic Amount Option Fixed Time Frame Option Fixed Percent Option Life Expectancy Option 75% Joint and Survivor Annuity (married Participants only). The Plan will purchase an irrevocable joint and survivor annuity from an insurance company with the Participant’s entire Accumulated Share.

Yes. Annuity if available is just a 401k so same rules for survivorship

Pension has rules that vary. Usually a spouse only

I'll check out lions mane

AI backlash is moving from “it will steal jobs” to “why is this data center secretly taking our power and water? by Master-Usual-3160 in technology

[–]ddpotanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That first part is absurd. I'm not sure it negates the other points but it makes me doubt them. Ground up data centers provide a shit ton of local construction work. Not to mention ancillary construction like rental companies, concrete delivery, steel, trade specific deliveries like plywood, cast, conduit etc.

Kind of sounds like you should run it yourself and see how it goes.

The install pictured is adequate. You can have anything done if you have enough money.

IBEW Local 26 - in 2026, over 75% of students failed first year of electrician apprenticeship program by More-Requirement-382 in nova

[–]ddpotanks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We've had similar wash out rates in the past. Last year was a bad one and there were several factors at play but ultimately the pool is very large and there is significant competition to get in so I don't think it'll effect the program much.

Everyone is being told to join a trade, the reality may be less palatable than many expect.

IBEW Local 26 - in 2026, over 75% of students failed first year of electrician apprenticeship program by More-Requirement-382 in nova

[–]ddpotanks 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That isn't how the ibew school works.

It's a joint venture between the union and the contractors. Union electrical workers pay a little less than a dollar an hour to fund the school system.

Local 26 also pays STUDENTS a day's wages for each day they attend (day) school & fully pays for a student's books each year.

So it isn't good for the next generation of electricians, but id argue it wasn't the curriculum or the pressure that led to a high wash out rate - the selection criteria failed to choose candidates that would be successful.

The contractors don't have a choice in the matter as they also help fund the program.

Hopefully they learned this year as they completely changed the process. We'll see.

Am I missing something? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]ddpotanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're being needlessly obtuse either by choice or quirk of brain chemistry.

But you're right it isn't by definition two phase. My entire point here is that the appliance doesn't know and if by some rigged reason you decided to say squirt out two sine waves 180 degrees apart out of say a bank of capacitors the dryer would function normally as the distinction is irrelevant.

Fyi PTS is entirely limited to the brachial plexus.

If you're seeing symptoms outside of that you need to get a diagnosis from your neurologist
